Problem

Many Excel workflows look like simple merging, cleaning, and reporting, but repeated manual steps are error-prone, and HR, finance, or customer data may not be safe to upload to external tools. This skill frames the goal as a local, auditable, rollback-friendly macro, not just quick VBA output, and it avoids running directly on the only original file by default.

How It Works

It starts by confirming the workbook, worksheet, header row, unique key, output location, and acceptance cases, then writes a data contract. Sanitized samples of 3 to 10 rows cover blanks, duplicate keys, bad formats, missing matches, and boundary amounts. For one-off small tasks, it prefers Power Query or formulas; VBA is used only when rules are stable and repeated. Generated macros are expected to include Option Explicit, error handling, input checks, logs or error lists, state restoration, and avoid reliance on Select, Activate, or overwriting source data.

Boundaries

It fits multi-sheet merge/split, matching by ID or name, cleaning dates and amounts, and departmental reporting for local data that should not be uploaded. It is not intended for real-time multi-user collaboration, database-level concurrency, datasets beyond Excel’s stable scale, or bypassing workbook protection and audit controls. On Mac, avoid Windows-only ActiveX, COM, and file dialogs.
