filie-oranger targets local directories where mixed file types, temporary downloads, and office assets accumulate together. It does not infer file semantics; instead, it sorts top-level files into extension-based folders such as 01_Documents, 02_Images, and 03_Videos, automating the repetitive step of deciding where each file belongs.

Core Capabilities and Workflow

• Preview first: run --dry-run to inspect the proposed categorization, then commit the move only after confirmation, reducing accidental reorganization.
• Eight built-in categories: documents, images, video, audio, archives, installers, code, and design files; unrecognized files are placed in 99_Other.
• Custom rules: map extensions to target folders with a JSON configuration, matching team-specific naming conventions.
• Report generation: produce a post-organization report to review which files moved and which directories received them.
• Safety details: by default it processes top-level files only, does not recurse into subdirectories, adds suffixes to duplicate filenames, and skips .DS_Store, Thumbs.db, and .git.

Boundaries

This is useful for download folders, project asset roots, and scratch workspaces. It is not intended for semantic renaming, cross-drive migration, backup recovery, or restructuring nested directory trees. For critical production files, preview the mapping first; on Windows, quote paths such as "D:\My Documents".
