BytePlan Excel Report Generator

The problem

Financial or operational analysis results are often already produced by byteplan-analysis, but delivery still requires manual Excel cleanup: inconsistent column names, uneven precision for amounts and percentages, and dimensions mixed into one sheet or padded with explanatory text. byteplan-excel standardizes this handoff step. It reads existing analysis output from the working directory and produces structured tables that downstream systems can consume directly. Its goal is not report decoration, but stable column structure that can be read by later scripts, reconciliation, or archiving.

How it works

It does not perform secondary analysis or invent data. The core flow is:
- Read data: load the analysis results generated by byteplan-analysis from the BytePlan working directory.
- Normalize structure: split outputs by dimension, such as TOP3 Contribution Factors, Expense Category Contribution, Asset Category Contribution, and Allocation Step Contribution.
- Generate Excel: use xlsx to create a workbook where amounts keep two decimal places, ratios keep three decimal places, and rankings are integers.

Each dimension is placed in its own sheet. The output is a pure data table with no titles, annotations, or decorative content. Generated files must be written into the BytePlan working directory, such as marginal_analysis_.../marginal_analysis_report.xlsx.

Boundaries

Use it when you need to turn existing analysis results into standard Excel attachments, or as a preprocessing step for reports, reconciliation, or archiving. It is not suitable for analyzing raw data directly; if byteplan-analysis output is missing, run that step first. It fits scenarios with fixed column names, precision, and sheet layout, but not free-form layout or advanced charting.
