About this skill

Problem

SMT placement BOMs often mix in non-placement parts such as batteries, speakers, cables, and hand-soldered items, while BOMs exported from different EDA tools may use different column names, units, and designator ranges. Submitting them directly to JLC can create placement and material errors, especially when field differences between design BOMs and factory SMT lists increase manual checking cost.

How it works

The skill performs two-way conversion for SMT parts:
- Company/EDA BOM → JLC BOM: detects formats from Altium, Protel 99SE, JLC EDA, and KiCad, matches columns by fuzzy column names, and uses Comment/Value/MPN plus spec parameters as the mapping baseline.
- JLC BOM → company BOM: writes an internal-format BOM while preserving identifiable fields and leaving the original file unchanged.
Key steps include confirming conversion direction, displaying field mappings, flagging uncertain fields, generating a validation report, and forcing a reminder for critical parts review. Unknown fields are left blank or marked [manual review required]; AI-inferred fields are marked [AI inferred]; non-SMT items are marked [non-SMT item] without raising an error.

Scope and cautions

It performs format conversion, field mapping, and rule checks only, and does not replace engineer review or call LCSC APIs online. Incomplete IC suffixes, quantity/designator mismatches, abnormal footprints, critical parts, and AI-inferred fields all require manual confirmation. It does not judge whether part numbers are current, whether substitutes are usable, or handle sourcing quotes.

Use Cases

  • Turn an Altium design BOM into a JLC BOM order format and flag non-SMT items using fuzzy column mapping and a validation report.
  • Convert a KiCad BOM to JLC style 1, confirm field mapping, and generate a validation report without changing the original file.
  • Mark batteries, light strips, and cables as non-SMT when preparing an SMT placement list for later manual decision to remove or process separately.
  • Reverse a JLC BOM back to internal format, preserving designators, footprints, and quantities for archival, review, and internal part-number reconciliation.

Best For

  • Hardware engineers preparing JLC placement orders who need a review-ready SMT BOM from design exports with non-SMT flags and validation notes.
  • PCB engineers handling EDA exports who need Altium, KiCad, or Protel BOMs converted to JLC format while preserving column mapping and designators.
  • SMT process engineers checking BOMs who need non-SMT items and pending fields clearly marked before placement preparation and manual review.
  • Hardware assistants managing internal part numbers who need bidirectional conversion without modifying source files for order files and archival records.
