About this skill

Problem

Before submission, reference lists exported from EndNote, CNKI, or manually copied from PDFs often contain mixed Chinese and English entries, inconsistent numbering, author name capitalization issues, missing journal volume or page details, and formatting requirements that differ across APA, GB/T 7714, MLA, and Chicago. Editing every entry by hand is error-prone and hard to audit.

How It Works

The skill takes a messy reference list and reformats it into the requested citation standard. It first parses the entry fields and produces a change report showing which items were reordered, which fields were completed, and which formatting rules were applied. After the user confirms the report, it generates the final document. It supports sorting Chinese and English literature into separate sections. The built-in online completion and custom format upload are intended to fill missing fields or adapt to non-default templates, not to replace the original bibliographic source.

Scope And Caveats

It is best for normalizing an existing reference list, not for generating citations from scratch or discovering sources. If the input lacks DOIs, page ranges, publication years, or other key metadata, final quality depends on how completely those fields can be resolved. Reviewers and authors should still verify the change report and final entries before submission.

Use Cases

  • Convert EndNote-exported APA citations to a journal's GB/T 7714 style, reviewing the change report before exporting the final file.
  • Clean up a mixed Chinese and English reference list copied from CNKI, sorting entries by language for a thesis draft.
  • Reformat scattered report sources into MLA style and check changes to authors, volume numbers, and page ranges.
  • Upload a custom submission template and adapt the reference list to the editor's required Chicago style.

Best For

  • Graduate students preparing a thesis and checking citations against a school-specific style template
  • Authors who need to unify EndNote or CNKI citations into a journal style before finalizing a draft
  • Research assistants maintaining mixed Chinese and English reference lists with an auditable change log
  • Academic writers who must deliver references in a custom template instead of editing each citation manually
