About this skill

Problem

Desktops, download folders, and project scratch directories collect loose files over time. Manually sorting them by type is slow and easy to botch when extensions look similar. file-organizer-plus addresses that repetitive task by scanning a desktop or a specified directory and moving files into type-specific folders without altering their contents.

How It Works

  • Default or explicit path: Without a path it organizes the desktop; with a path it processes the specified folder, making it useful for batch sorting downloads or scratch files.
  • Extension-based sorting: Files such as .pdf, .docx, .jpg, .mp4, and .py are routed to folders like Documents, Images, Videos, and Code; unmatched files go to Other.
  • Preview before action: It shows a preview list before moving, so misplaced entries can be checked before execution.
  • Low-touch moves: It only changes file locations, not file contents, and skips files currently in use.
  • Undo support: Moves can be rolled back via _撤销记录, reducing the cost of accidental sorting.

It is best suited for local folders containing office, media, and development files, not for cloud sync, renaming policies, or content processing.

Use Cases

  • Move loose PDFs, DOCX files, PNGs, and MP3s on the desktop into matching folders to reduce time searching for files.
  • Sort a download folder full of .jpg, .zip, and .exe files after previewing the plan, avoiding moves of files in use.
  • Archive .py, .json, .md files and screenshots from a project scratch directory so handoff can find code and docs by type.
  • Organize migrated old laptop files into Documents, Images, and Videos while keeping an undo path for accidental moves.

Best For

  • Operations staff who sort downloaded and desktop files into document, image, and archive folders each week.
  • Engineers who keep scratch code, docs, and screenshots separate for project handoff.
  • Content editors organizing migrated files from an old laptop while needing an undo path.
  • Freelancers cleaning a desktop without moving files that are still in use.
