About this skill

Problem

Desktops, download folders, and shared drives often accumulate PNG, PDF, source code, and archives. Manual organization becomes hard when the rules are inconsistent: the same batch of files may need to be split by type, then by date, while also avoiding system files or overwriting existing directories. File Auto-Archiving Assistant turns archiving into a confirmable rule-based operation.

How It Works

When a user provides a file path and archiving rules, it identifies file types, creates folders such as Images, Documents, Video, Code, and Archives, and moves files into the matching locations. If the instruction includes dates or keywords, such as “last month’s images” or “study materials,” it uses those as secondary classification criteria.

  • Type recognition: distinguishes formats such as images, documents, video, code, and archives.
  • Folder creation: builds category folders for easier review.
  • File moving: organizes files by type, date, or keywords.
  • Report generation: outputs an operation log, category counts, and before-after comparisons.

Boundaries And Notes

It is suitable for regular business files, personal study materials, assets, and code archives. It only performs file operations when the user explicitly provides a path or archiving instruction, and it confirms the rules before acting. For system-critical files, permission-restricted directories, cross-platform special paths, or documents requiring deep content analysis, do not rely on automatic judgment. Keep human confirmation for duplicate-file handling to avoid accidental deletion.

Use Cases

  • Sort PDFs, images, and archives from Downloads into drive folders by type
  • Move last month's desktop images into a dated 2026-04 asset folder
  • Archive customer files, contracts, and quotes in a shared drive by keywords and review the report
  • Clean duplicate documents in Downloads, keep latest versions, and compare before/after

Best For

  • Personal knowledge managers who need to sort PDFs, images, and archives in Downloads by type and date
  • Project operations staff who archive customer contracts, quotes, and local files by keywords and verify results
  • Document administrators who clean duplicates, keep the latest versions, and review before-and-after comparisons
  • Independent designers who organize scattered assets into dated project folders
