About this skill

Problem It Solves

F&B brands often confuse branding with campaigns, visuals, or short-term traffic. The result is spend that does not accumulate into manageable equity. This skill reframes the question: where does the current Brand Equity stand, and how should the next brand decision be structured? It is not a data lookup tool or a financial valuation engine. It provides a decision framework centered on brand assets.

How It Works

The skill first classifies the question into five modes: brand equity diagnosis, brand identity design, brand architecture, portfolio governance, and brand extension or category innovation. Then it collects key facts through option-style questions, such as whether customers can name the brand unprompted, whether they will pay a premium, and whether they would switch to an identical new competitor.

The analysis draws on several David Aaker frameworks:
- Five-factor model: scores Loyalty, Awareness, Perceived Quality, Associations, and Proprietary Assets.
- Brand identity: separates Identity from Image, examines the brand as product, organization, personality, and symbol, then breaks it into Essence, Core Identity, and Extended Identity.
- Brand architecture: chooses among House of Brands, Endorsed Brands, Subbrands, and Branded House.
- Brand portfolio: governs multiple brands using relevance, differentiation, vitality, leverage, and clarity, then assigns roles such as Strategic Brand, Silver Bullet, Flanker, and Cash Cow.
- Brand relevance: evaluates whether launching a new category can make competitors less relevant.

Scope and Caveats

It is useful for F&B chains, multi-brand operators, and brand leaders when weighing positioning, naming, architecture, extension, or portfolio priorities. It does not fetch live market data and does not return a final yes/no decision. For financial statements, valuation, supply-chain execution, or store-level SOPs, it should be combined with real data and more operational frameworks.

Use Cases

  • A hotpot brand spends heavily but has weak repeat purchase; diagnose the five equity factors and choose the priority fix.
  • A new F&B brand needs an identity; draft a one-line essence using product, organization, personality, and symbol views for the team.
  • A chain is launching a second beef brand; decide whether to use endorsement, subbrand, or independent architecture based on category fit.
  • A portfolio has four overlapping brands; rank strategic, flanker, and cash-cow roles using relevance and differentiation to decide budget.

Best For

  • F&B brand managers: test which equity dimensions are weak before launch or spend.
  • Multi-brand operators: assign strategic, flanker, and cash-cow roles to decide investment.
  • F&B founders: turn the identity question into product, organization, personality, and symbol views.
  • Marketing leads: assess whether a new category or extension dilutes the master brand.
