About this skill

Problem

When engineers or analysts face a new industry, the hard part is usually not finding information but lacking a consistent decision framework. Asking a model to summarize an industry often yields generic definitions, market size, and trend lists, while failing to answer whether the sector is investable, which niche to enter, or how the conclusion should be validated over time. This skill turns an industry question into a decision-ready research report by defining boundaries first and then applying a fixed analytical backbone, instead of treating short-term growth as lifecycle proof or presenting unverified data as fact.

How It Works

It first clarifies only decision-critical context: industry scope, region, time horizon, and intended use such as investment, startup strategy, consulting, content, or learning. If the context is sufficient, it proceeds directly. The core process includes:
- Research object and granularity: define the industry boundary to avoid market-sizing drift.
- Business Model Canvas: explain how value is created, delivered, and captured.
- Industry lifecycle: identify the stage and assign analysis weights.
- Feasibility, scale, defensibility, profitability, valuation, external factors, and prosperity: test the business model, market size, moat, competitive structure, valuation logic, PEST drivers, and ongoing validation indicators.
The output leads with the core thesis, then separates facts, hypotheses, and judgments, and ends with a tracking dashboard: indicators, update frequency, source suggestions, and conditions that would change the conclusion.

Boundaries

It is suited to industry analysis, investment research, market entry, and consulting, but not to real-time data verification, financial modeling, or legal compliance conclusions. Key data must include source and evidence quality, and third-party claims should be marked as unverified when necessary.

Use Cases

  • Decide whether to enter a niche renewable-energy segment by outlining boundary, business model, and moat
  • Prepare an investment memo by ordering feasibility, sizing, profitability, valuation, and unverified data
  • Build market-entry research notes that separate facts, hypotheses, judgments, and tracking indicators
  • Draft consulting deliverables with executive summary, PEST constraints, and a prosperity dashboard

Best For

  • Investment analyst: turning an investment thesis into checkable conclusions and tracking metrics
  • Founder: deciding industry boundary, business model, and entry niche before launch
  • Consulting analyst: producing structured industry research work papers for clients
  • Strategy product manager: assessing market size, competitive structure, and external drivers
