Problem

Folders such as Desktop, Downloads, or project directories often collect loose files. Sorting them by type can accidentally move hidden system files, overwrite same-name files, or make rollback difficult. File Organizer Pro targets this workflow: scan the target folder, move files into category folders by extension, and keep an undo path.

How It Works

• Organize mode: Performs a safety check first, excluding hidden system files and existing category folders. If more than 100 files are found, it asks for confirmation. Files are grouped by extension into folders such as Documents, Data, Images, and Code, with unmatched files placed into Others. Before moving, it checks for name conflicts and renames files like notes(1).txt.
• Restore mode: Moves files from category folders back to the root directory, using the same conflict-safe renaming logic. It then removes empty category folders and outputs a restore report.
• Preview mode: Scans and matches categories only, without creating folders or moving files. It is useful for reviewing the plan before execution.
• Error handling: Invalid paths, missing permissions, locked files, or damaged files produce explicit prompts, skips, or safe stops instead of silent failures.

Boundaries

It is suitable for local folders where the main task is type-based archiving and rollback. It does not infer business file naming, parse file contents, perform cross-drive backup, or handle permission-heavy large-scale directories. For directories with many hidden files, active program files, or uncommon extensions, run preview mode first and review the report.
