About this skill

Problem Scope

When users have minor discomfort, the hard part is often not “what hurts” but “should I see a doctor, what specialty, and how urgent is it?” symptom-checker-pro targets this non-diagnostic decision: it does not replace a physician and does not prescribe, but turns vague complaints into actionable triage priorities.

How It Works

The skill analyzes three categories of information:
- Information gathering: symptom location, character, duration, associated symptoms, and recent diet, sleep, or exposure history.
- Risk identification: list plausible causes while checking for danger signs such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, or heavy bleeding.
- Layered guidance: separate observe, see a doctor soon, and seek immediate care, with suggested specialty and home monitoring notes, such as recording symptom changes and avoiding self-directed antibiotics or prescription drugs.

Boundaries

It is useful for preliminary triage prompts for adults or children, but not for confirmed diagnosis, medication advice, emergency care, or mental-health assessment. If red-flag symptoms appear, or symptoms keep worsening, seek care directly. Provide complete information and treat the output as a “whether to visit” reference, not a final medical judgment.

Use Cases

  • After mild discomfort, decide whether to observe, seek scheduled care, or go to emergency care, and draft key symptoms to report.
  • After headaches, fever, or abdominal pain, review likely causes, associated risks, and the most relevant specialty to consult.
  • Provide preliminary triage prompts for a child's unusual symptoms and decide when to see a doctor sooner.
  • Before a clinic visit, record symptom timing, progression, and aggravating factors into a concise brief for the physician.

Best For

  • Individuals with mild symptoms who need a quick check on whether to observe or seek care.
  • Parents or caregivers of young children who need help deciding when an unusual symptom warrants earlier care.
  • People with chronic conditions or long-term medication who need to frame new symptoms and urgency for a clinician.
  • Health-assist use cases that need vague symptom descriptions turned into triage prompts within strict non-diagnostic limits.
