About this skill

What It Solves

Organization change consulting often fails when generic frameworks are pasted onto the wrong problem: a communication conflict is treated as a transformation program, employee anxiety is handled as process design, or an adaptive challenge is reduced to systems mapping. This skill is for business-ops and HR scenarios where the first step is to separate the symptom from the underlying issue before choosing a theory.

How It Works

The core mechanism is a scenario-to-framework mapping, not a broad list of management terms.

  • Problem identification: up to three Socratic questions, such as “What is the deeper anxiety?” “What outcome do you actually want?” and “What is the biggest blocker?”
  • Scenario classification: process, culture, change, transition, system, and adaptive layers, covering communication friction, value conflicts, resistance to change, employee anxiety, complex causality, and novel challenges.
  • Framework matching: selects one or two of Schein, Kotter, Senge, Bridges, or Heifetz based on the diagnosed layer, rather than stacking all five.
  • Output structure: fixed to problem essence, theoretical framework, core recommendations, and risk notes, with 2-3 concise actions.

Boundary and Caveats

Use it for structured consulting support in transformation, HRBP, OD, and team-management discussions. Legal labor risk, compensation design, M&A integration, and acute psychological support still require specialist input. The skill emphasizes people factors, but production-grade plans still need data, interviews, org charts, and stakeholder constraints rather than a template alone.

Use Cases

  • An HRBP needs to diagnose whether new-team conflict is process, culture, or transition-driven before choosing interventions.
  • A leader needs to build urgency and communicate vision during a business transformation using Kotter's eight steps.
  • After a merger, staff roles are unclear and anxiety is high, so the team needs transition-support talking points and actions.
  • A team suffers from slow collaboration and complex causes, and needs systems thinking to find leverage points instead of adding meetings.

Best For

  • HRBPs leading org redesign or change rollout: need to split anxiety, role ambiguity, and resistance into consultable scenarios.
  • Managers driving business transformation: need to create urgency, communicate vision, and identify blockers.
  • OD consultants handling post-merger or restructuring teams: need to match transition, culture, and system tools.
  • Ops leaders diagnosing cross-team collaboration: need to separate process, culture, and power-structure issues.
