About this skill
Problem
Amazon product selection often fails before sourcing: a seller may see a category but not know which sub-segment is viable, or analyze an ASIN by price and review count while missing BSR, price bands, review pain points, FBA fee brackets, and keyword demand. This skill is aimed at experienced Amazon sellers and expects data-backed, actionable selection judgments rather than general market commentary.
How It Works
It first classifies the input. With only a category or market, it runs Mode A: Category Exploration, scanning BSR distribution, price bands, seasonality, concentration, new-product share, and review velocity, then shortlists 3-5 sub-segments. With an ASIN, product link, or keyword, it runs Mode B: Product Deep Dive across market scanning, competitor teardown, FBA profit modeling, and keyword traffic. Key steps include:
- Cross-checking Amazon pages, BSR lists,
Google Trends, and Keepa/CamelCamelCamel for consistent metrics; - Building a 15-20 direct competitor pool, mapping a rating-price matrix, and extracting high-frequency complaints from 1-3 star reviews;
- Producing two profit models, launch phase and stable phase, covering commission, FBA fulfillment, storage, first-mile logistics, ads, and return allowance;
- Listing core, long-tail, competitor-reverse, and
PPCbid opportunities.
Boundaries and Notes
It is suited for selection screening and scenario modeling from public data, not seller central, exact inventory, or API-level operations. If purchase cost, logistics mode, or target price are missing, results are estimates. Sellers remain responsible for brand, patent, compliance, and ranking-risk decisions.
Use Cases
- Given a US kitchen gadget ASIN, check competitor price bands, negative review pain points, and launch-phase profit before stocking.
- With only a pet supplies category, scan BSR, price gaps, and review complaints to shortlist three sub-segments.
- Estimate launch and stable FBA net profit for the same product under air and sea first-mile logistics.
- Before a selection meeting, compile core keywords, long-tail terms, competitor traffic words, and PPC bid ranges.
Best For
- US Amazon operators with 3+ years of experience who need pre-purchase ASIN profit and competition checks
- Cross-border category managers who need to shortlist sub-segments with weak monopoly and clear review pain points
- Amazon operations leads who need launch-phase and stable-phase FBA profit models for stocking decisions
- PPC specialists who need core, long-tail, competitor traffic, and keyword search opportunity evaluation
