About this skill

Problem

Focus Mode targets sessions that start easily but break down under interruptions. The issue is rarely a lack of tasks; it is constant switching caused by phone, notifications, messages, and multitasking. The skill does not promise system control or live supervision. It turns focus into a workable plan: confirm duration, task, and distraction sources, then suggest pomodoro pacing, setup checklists, white noise/music links, and anti-interruption tactics.

How It Works and Limits

Its core output is process guidance:
- Planning: generate a pomodoro count, break schedule, and single-task breakdown;
- Execution support: provide checklists, resource links, and interruption-handling prompts;
- Review: record completed pomodoros, analyze efficiency, and suggest improvements.

It fits beginners starting with 15 to 30 minutes and building consistency. It is not for users expecting automatic notification blocking, audio playback, real-time timing, or forced device lock. Pair it with a timer such as Forest or Todo Timer and manually enable Do Not Disturb. If the task is unclear, define the deliverable before starting.

Use Cases

  • Break a 90-minute design review prep block into three pomodoros with task switching.
  • Prepare a quiet remote-work setup with chat-muted checklist and white noise links.
  • Track completed pomodoros during thesis study and analyze interruption causes.
  • Plan a 25-minute single-task coding sprint with break suggestions before deep work.

Best For

  • Product manager drafting technical docs: split 60 minutes into actionable pomodoros and reduce chat noise.
  • Graduate student preparing thesis defense: log daily focus time and identify high-interruption tasks.
  • Engineer joining multiple remote reviews: create pre-meeting focus checklist and white noise links for single-task work.
  • Freelance developer starting routine focus: build a 15-minute rhythm and avoid overlong failed targets.
