About this skill
Problem It Solves
Many self-myofascial release routines fail not because of equipment, but because foam rollers, percussion guns, and massage balls are used like generic massagers: in the wrong areas, with too much pressure, and without separating pre-workout activation from post-workout recovery. This skill is intended for requests involving myofascial release, foam rollers, percussion guns, muscle relaxation, or roller massage. It produces a conservative, actionable plan with explicit safety boundaries, not medical diagnosis or treatment.
How the Skill Works
It first clarifies three inputs: the goal, such as full-body recovery, a specific region, or post-exercise relaxation; the available tools, such as a foam roller, percussion gun, or massage ball; and the current discomfort areas plus contraindications like injury or vascular issues. Then it builds a bounded sequence: tool selection, region order, time and pressure guidance, and regions that must be avoided. Pressure is described using a 0-10 pain scale, starting conservatively; the guidance covers body position, roller angle, breathing, and why lingering on a tender spot is usually better than fast back-and-forth rolling.
It separates two strategies: pre-workout, using short, faster rolls for activation; and post-workout, using slower, deeper pauses for tension relief and recovery. For local issues such as the area between shoulder blades, outer hip, or calf, it can suggest tool combinations: foam rollers for broader areas and percussion guns or balls for targeted spots. If a user asks about rolling the neck, reports bruising, has a history of deep vein thrombosis, has an acute strain, or reports pain above 5/10, it prompts them to stop, reduce pressure, or avoid that region.
Boundaries
The skill is an assistive guide for self-care only. It does not replace medical massage, physical therapy, or pain clinic care. Avoid the front of the neck, abdomen, joints, bony prominences, wounds, skin lesions, and any scenario involving deep vein thrombosis, fracture, acute injury, or unexplained persistent tension. Stubborn trigger points and severe fascial pain should be handled by qualified clinicians.
Use Cases
- After training, generate a region-by-region foam roller or percussion gun release sequence.
- Use a percussion gun on the scapular or outer hip area with intensity, time, and safety limits.
- Separate pre-workout activation from post-workout recovery with different pacing strategies.
- When bruising or sharp pain appears, decide whether to stop, reduce pressure, or seek care.
Best For
- Fitness enthusiasts with tight thighs or calves after sessions who want a conservative sequence.
- Runners using foam rollers who need clear contraindicated areas before rolling.
- Desk workers with tight upper back or outer hip who want safe percussion-gun spots.
- Recreational ball-sport players with slow recovery who need pre/post strategies separated.
