About this skill

The Problem: Building Before Deciding

Many indie developers are blocked not by code, but by selection. AI coding tools can turn a rough idea into a demo quickly, but if the product lacks clear answers about who it serves, which specific job it solves, and why users would pay now, faster iteration can increase rework cost. Niche-Awesome targets this early uncertainty: before building, it breaks a vague direction into testable questions instead of relying on gut feel.

How It Works: From Vague Idea to Structured BRD

The skill organizes research into a six-step workflow, with each step producing concrete actions:

  • Trend validation: check whether demand is real and whether the signal is growing or fading.
  • Competitor complaint mining: collect user complaints, limitations, and unmet use cases around existing tools.
  • User persona: identify who pays, for which task, which alternatives they use, and their price sensitivity.
  • Market size: estimate the opportunity from demand, user base, and transaction signals rather than keyword popularity alone.
  • Pricing strategy: compare competitor billing models and choose a suitable price structure.
  • Competitive positioning: anchor differentiation in specific scenarios, delivery format, or user language.

During use, the AI suggests what to search, where to look, and how to interpret results. The user still needs to search, paste back evidence, and add context. The output is a BRD for deciding whether to build, pivot, or stop.

Boundaries

It is useful for solo builders, small teams, or early-stage AI-assisted products that need direction screening. It does not automatically scrape data, run full financial models, or generate compliance documents. If the evidence supplied by the user is weak, the conclusion will be weak. For products whose demand is already validated, it works better as a review and positioning tool than as a complete business plan.

Use Cases

  • Check trend, competitor complaints, persona, and pricing for a background removal tool.
  • Screen a niche from vague ideas and produce a structured BRD before coding.
  • Turn strong competitor complaints into a defensible positioning and pricing decision.
  • Decide whether to build before starting AutoCode or ZeroCode development.

Best For

  • Developers planning overseas indie products without a research method
  • AI builders who need to validate vague ideas into a BRD
  • Early product owners comparing competitor complaints and pricing
  • Small teams moving from niche selection to AutoCode or ZeroCode
