About this skill

Problem

The hardest part of a business negotiation is often not the script, but designing a strategy with incomplete information: your limits are unclear, the other side's leverage is hard to infer, and pricing or concessions become guesswork. This skill is for negotiation preparation. It uses both parties' interests, leverage, and limits to produce an actionable strategy framework rather than making decisions for you.

How It Works

The core inputs are the issue, goal, your bottom line, and the likely position of the other party. It organizes the work around several modules:
- BATNA analysis: evaluate fallback options for both sides to assess bargaining room.
- Anchoring and concessions: design the opening price, concession size, pacing, and trade conditions.
- Talk preparation: cover opening, progression, objection handling, and closing scenarios.
- Risk handling: flag information gaps, stalemates, and possible bad-faith behavior.

Boundaries

It is best suited to commercial contexts such as sales pricing, procurement, supplier, or partner negotiations. It does not provide legal advice, replace a lawyer, or handle routine objection handling, salary talks, or personal conflict. The output is a reference framework; the other party's true limits must still be tested in the conversation. Strategies for illegal, deceptive, or bribery-related scenarios are refused.

Use Cases

  • Before sourcing, negotiate price and payment terms by generating an opening quote, concession pacing, and trade-offs.
  • When a customer pushes price down, use BATNA to set limits, add non-price conditions, and draft closing talk.
  • Before a partnership deal on revenue share or exclusivity, infer the counterparty's stance and prepare stalemate options.
  • With only vague counterparty demands, design probing questions and staged proposals to reduce information gaps.

Best For

  • Sourcing or supplier negotiators who need to organize price, payment terms, and service clauses into a negotiation plan.
  • B2B sales or presales people who need fallbacks, trade-offs, and closing talk when customers push price down.
  • Business owners negotiating partnership terms who need BATNA analysis and concession pacing.
  • Commercial leads who need to turn scattered demands and leverage into a complete negotiation strategy.
