About this skill

Problem

After finishing a book, the common issue is not simply “no notes taken,” but notes that do not accumulate well: there are many highlights without personal judgment, records are stacked chronologically, core ideas are hard to retrieve, and actions are rarely converted into practice. Reading Notes Template addresses this kind of problem by providing a fixed structure that turns scattered excerpts, reading points, and highlights into reviewable personal knowledge material. It does not provide ebooks and does not replace reading; it refines the user’s existing understanding into a more structured expression.

How It Works

The core workflow includes:

  • Collect input: receive the user’s book excerpts, reading notes, and quotes, then confirm the book type and intended use.
  • Structure notes: extract core ideas, chapter-level points, and notable sentences.
  • Process deeper: generate an action list, connect prior knowledge, and propose follow-up questions.
  • Output notes: organize content according to the template, create review cards, and suggest further reading.

The output principles emphasize clarity, extraction of essential ideas, personal interpretation, action orientation, and easy revision. It is better suited to note-taking while reading, supplementing notes afterward, and periodic review, rather than summarizing an entire book from nothing.

Boundaries

This skill does not provide ebooks, does not recommend books, and is not suited to workflows with significantly different formats, such as academic paper notes. If the user has not read the original work, it is better to form basic understanding first; if the input is thin, the skill only organizes what exists and avoids inventing a “standard interpretation.” The notes are personal aids, not a complete summary or authoritative reading of the original work.

Use Cases

  • After finishing a practical book, turn scattered highlights and frequent ideas into reviewable notes.
  • While studying course books, organize excerpts, quotes, and personal thoughts into action items and review cards.
  • When keeping reading notes, connect chapter points with prior knowledge and fill missing structured fields.
  • Before revising old book notes, reorganize existing excerpts into a template that supports quick retrieval.

Best For

  • Readers who need to organize excerpts into a fixed structure for quick later review.
  • Learners who want to extract action lists from reading notes and connect prior knowledge.
  • Book-club facilitators who need to turn personal understanding into core ideas and quotes before a session.
  • Knowledge managers who want to generate review cards for periodic revision.
