About this skill

Problem

When you ask whether a stock is worth buying, answers can easily mix news, sentiment, and single-metric reasoning. This skill turns value-investing analysis into a reviewable workflow, helping engineers and analysts reason from company fundamentals rather than short-term trading signals.

How It Works

  • Information collection: assembles annual reports, quarterly reports, five-year financials, valuation metrics, and ownership structure.
  • Moat assessment: checks whether the business is simple, how competitive the industry is, and how likely the company is to remain strong for 10 years, then rates the moat as wide/narrow/none.
  • Management review: evaluates integrity, capital allocation quality, pay alignment with shareholders, and communication candor.
  • Financial checks: scores ROE, free cash flow, leverage, interest coverage, and growth durability.
  • Valuation and margin of safety: estimates an intrinsic value range and tests whether the current price provides roughly 25% to 30% margin of safety.
  • Multi-perspective checks: loads Fisher, Munger, and Duan Yongping references when useful for growth-stock, psychology-bias, and Chinese operating-context validation.

Boundaries

Use it for long-term fundamental screening, moat analysis, and financial stress checks. It does not replace audit, compliance diligence, or live trade execution. If a company is outside the circle of competence, data is thin, or the question is short-term, it avoids forced conclusions; the output is for reference only and is not investment advice.

Use Cases

  • Before drafting a stock research memo, compile moat, management, five-year financials, valuation, and margin-of-safety judgments into a structured view analysis.
  • When debating whether a company fits Buffett standards, output moat rating, financial checks, and margin-of-safety conclusions with explicit reasoning for each section.
  • When reviewing growth-stock picks, apply Fisher’s 15 points and Munger’s bias checks to assess management, business quality, and supporting evidence.
  • When preparing an investment memo, use Duan Yongping’s operating perspective to compare business models, culture, and margin-of-safety reasoning across cases.

Best For

  • Equity research analyst who needs fundamentals, moat, and valuation judgments in a reviewable report.
  • Fund manager studying A-share or HK consumer and tech stocks, seeking an operator-level view of business models and management.
  • Value-investing learner who wants to apply Buffett, Duan Yongping, and Fisher frameworks to test stock-selection logic.
  • Memo writer who needs financial checks, margin of safety, and risk disclosures.
