About this skill

Problem

Line improvement often stalls on three issues: the end-to-end process is hard to map, changeover time is not split into internal and external work, and single-station analysis lacks structured questioning. Data is scattered across text, tables, photos, or whiteboard notes, turning it into a report is slow.

How it works

The skill routes ECRS, Makigami roll-paper analysis, and SMED rapid changeover into one workflow:
- Accepts text, md/docx/pdf/xlsx/csv files, or photos of flowcharts, observation sheets, and shop-floor layouts
- Detects the scenario from content: full process diagnosis uses Makigami + ECRS, setup/changeover uses the SMED 8-step method, and single stations use ECRS
- Produces WCM seven-step output: phenomenon, loss structure, 5Why, countermeasures, KPI, standardization, and sustain
- Can generate formatted .xlsx templates such as ECRS analysis, SMED observation, Makigami process map, and WCM report

Food and beverage cases get extra constraints for CIP cleaning, batch traceability, microbial control, and compliance. If OCR times out, parsing fails, or the network drops, it keeps recognized content and falls back to text input instead of stopping.

Boundaries

It does not connect to MES/ERP for automatic data collection and does not replace on-site measurement. Quantitative estimates require baseline data such as cycle time, changeover time, and defect rate. Changes involving process parameters, CIP, sterilization, or batch traceability should be reviewed by QA/regulatory teams, and pilots should be validated before rollout.

Use Cases

  • Map a 4-hour beverage filling line from incoming material to finished goods, identify waiting and transport losses with Makigami + ECRS.
  • Cut a 75-minute carton filler changeover from 250 ml to 1 L using SMED, separating internal and external setup work.
  • Analyze a single carton-packing station with ECRS to eliminate manual palletizing and simplify downstream visibility.
  • Run a food-and-beverage improvement week and generate a WCM seven-step report with CIP, batch traceability, and compliance notes.

Best For

  • Lean engineers who need to turn line cycle time, waiting, and transport losses into validated countermeasures.
  • Process or equipment engineers who want to reduce changeover by separating internal and external setup work.
  • Food and beverage production leads who need process improvements without compromising hygiene or batch traceability.
  • IE consultants who need to turn photos, observation sheets, and documents into ECRS, SMED, or WCM reports.
