Under the hood, the plugin polls the balance on mount, every five minutes, and on demand via the refresh icon. It also evaluates DeepSeek’s official peak-hour schedule (Beijing time, weekdays 09:00–12:00 and 14:00–18:00) in real time, tinting the balance in an orange warning color during peaks and reverting to the normal color during off-peak half-rate hours. Hovering the figure reveals which period you are in. Clicking the number opens the official usage dashboard in a new tab. The client only fetches a same-origin JSON route, so your API key never leaves the host; no session logs are written and no projections are registered, meaning zero side effects on your existing conversations.

Architecturally, dsh-balance uses a two-layer “boot shell + child plugin” design. The shell guarantees the loader’s activation audit always passes, while the real logic runs in a child fiber. If a dsh core upgrade breaks the child plugin’s internal imports, dsh still starts normally—only the little balance line disappears and everything else keeps working.
