You kick off a long DSH agent run, step away from your desk, and come back wondering whether the task finished, hit an error, or is sitting on a confirmation dialog quietly waiting for you. dsh-helper is a lightweight client plugin built for exactly this situation. It hooks into four DSH internal events — agent/status, request-error, ask_user_question, and approval/asked — and fires a native Windows toast the instant any of them triggers, so you get pulled back only at the moments that actually matter.

Beyond notifications, dsh-helper offers an optional completion chime. A built-in two-note synthesized sound plays when a session wraps up, with volume adjustable from 0 to 100. You can point it at any local wav, mp3, or wma file; if the custom file is missing it gracefully falls back to the bundled chime, then to Windows built-in notify sounds, so there is never a silent finish. Every toggle and volume setting lives in a dedicated Task Notifications (dsh-helper) section of DSH Settings, with three one-click test buttons that let you preview each notification type — complete, multi-choice confirm, and permission approval — without running an actual task.

This plugin is for Windows users who run long DSH agent sessions and want to step away from the screen while still getting a crisp alert the moment completion, an error, a confirmation prompt, or a permission dialog is waiting. It relies on PowerShell WinRT Toast, so there is nothing to compile and no admin rights required. Configuration changes are hot-loaded through the profile patch file, meaning no DSH restart is needed. If your workflow also calls for automatic retries on failure, pair it with a dedicated retry plugin such as dsh-task-reliability; dsh-helper itself is strictly observer-only and never blocks or retries.
