The most common frustration when working with agents in the DeepSeek Harness web UI is output that scrolls faster than you can read. The default follow mode snaps to the bottom the instant content grows, and a long reply can be pushed off-screen before you finish a paragraph. chat-pace solves this by layering a configurable reading-pace engine on top of the shipped follow logic—never replacing it, so every mode can be left on without side effects.

Five scroll modes cover the full range: Follow (instant snap, the shipped default), Smooth (glides at a configurable px/s), Paced (section-by-section reading with a pause proportional to section height, tall sections drift through at reading speed instead of freezing), Step (no auto-scroll; one section per key press), and Hold (view pinned; new output never moves it). Global hotkeys (F9 pause/resume, Ctrl+ArrowDown next, Ctrl+ArrowUp previous, Ctrl+End jump to latest), a mode menu in the composer tool row and session header, a live status line with reading-pause progress bar in the composer dock, and a full Settings page (glide speed, seconds-per-screen, pause clamps, section kinds, hotkey recorder with conflict detection) put you in control at every level. Per-session reading position is remembered as a row anchor plus offset, so it survives content growth and window resizing, and restoring it yields instantly if you touch the view mid-restore.

This plugin is for anyone who regularly reads long agent outputs in the Harness web UI and wants to pace their reading instead of racing the scroll. If you rely on the default instant-jump behavior and never feel the need for control, chat-pace stays out of the way—every feature is additive, coexists frame-by-frame with the shipped engine, and can be toggled off at any time.
