Preface¶
When writing reviews or compiling clinical evidence, Chinese literature is often an unavoidable component. Full-text access on platforms like VIP (CQVIP) and CNKI often requires login or payment, and frequently, we are only missing a few Open Access (OA) full texts. Even more troublesome are AI-generated Chinese references; the titles and journal names may look real, but the verification cost falls entirely on the user.
The Skill introduced below packages two things together: searching Chinese medical journals and downloading PDF full texts from the VIP OA platform without login, while simultaneously outputting complete metadata ready to be plugged into reference lines, and verifying existing Chinese citations.
What is this¶
One-sentence positioning: A suite for OA searching, downloading, and citation verification for Chinese medical literature, located at @indiv-sorsor/cn-med-oa.
Published by the SkillHub community author user_481397b5, it belongs to the professional category and is tagged requires_api_key=false. The current version is 2.4.1, with the source marked as community.
It solves the problems of: scattered entry points for free access to Chinese medical literature, inconsistent metadata fields, and the tendency for AI-assisted writing to produce unverifiable Chinese citations.
Core Functions¶
These capabilities are derived from the Skill’s official description and have been verified.
Search and Download. Search Chinese medical journals and download PDF full texts via the VIP OA platform oa.cqvip.com without login and for free.
Metadata Output. A single search returns complete fields, including Title, Authors, Journal, Year, Volume, Issue, Pages, DOI, ISSN, CN Number, Abstract, Keywords, Fund, and Classification Number. The completeness of these fields means you can directly construct reference lines in Vancouver or GB/T 7714 format without having to go back and check journal names or year/volume/issue details.
Relevance Gatekeeping. The platform’s native OR matching can easily retrieve irrelevant results. This gatekeeping logic filters out such results to avoid situations where “the search result is a literal keyword match, not a topical match.”
Five-State Citation Verifier verify_cn_refs. Used to verify existing Chinese citations and prevent AI hallucinated citations. The judgment semantics align with pubmed-verifier, meaning the criteria for judging “whether this citation points to a real literature” are aligned with existing PubMed verification tools.
Runtime Support. Includes SQLite caching, retry backoff, daily quotas, and rate limiting. It is implemented with zero dependencies using purely the standard library, requiring no additional package installation.
Installation and Activation¶
Installation commands and specific configuration items could not be verified from the existing scraped materials, so no speculative content is written here. Please refer to the official page:
https://www.skillhub.cn/skills/indiv-sorsor/cn-med-oa
What can be confirmed directly is: this Skill is tagged requires_api_key=false, so no API Key needs to be prepared before activation; it relies on zero external libraries, and the runtime environment can be treated as a pure standard library setup.
Triggering is done via natural language; there is no need to memorize fixed commands. The officially listed trigger words include: “download Chinese literature,” “find Chinese literature,” “download Chinese medical literature,” “find OA version,” “open access,” “free download paper,” “domestic guideline consensus interpretation,” “find references,” “Chinese literature support,” “supplement Chinese citations,” “verify Chinese citations,” “check Chinese literature,” “download VIP literature,” “find a few Chinese ones,” “need Chinese references for writing literature review.” English trigger words include download chinese paper, find OA chinese literature, verify chinese citations.
According to the official description, even expressions without explicit trigger words, such as “help me download this Chinese literature” or “find a few Chinese papers on rheumatoid,” will be matched.
Typical Usage¶
The following three examples are taken from the officially described behavior and are not fictional scenarios.
-
Search and Download. Input “Find a few Chinese papers on rheumatoid.” The Skill will perform VIP OA search, relevance gatekeeping, and PDF download, returning entries with complete metadata.
-
Supplement References. Input “Need Chinese references for writing a literature review.” The Skill searches OA literature by topic and outputs results that can be directly plugged into reference lines.
-
Verify Existing Citations. Input “Verify Chinese citations” or “Check Chinese literature.”
verify_cn_refsjudges the citations provided by the user one by one, used to filter out AI-generated hallucinated citations.
Use Cases and Notes¶
Suitable for: Review writing requiring full-text OA Chinese medical journals, supplementing Chinese evidence for guideline or consensus interpretations, and steps requiring verification of AI-generated Chinese references.
Limitations. The OA coverage of Chinese journals depends on the VIP OA platform’s own collection; not all Chinese medical journals have an OA version. When a search yields no results, one should not assume the literature does not exist. The platform-side daily quotas and rate limiting are mechanisms built into the Skill; high-frequency batch downloads will be throttled first.
Boundaries of Citation Verification. verify_cn_refs judges whether a citation points to a real literature, aligning semantically with pubmed-verifier; it cannot replace the reading and judgment of the literature content itself, nor can it guarantee the correctness of the clinical conclusions of a literature.
Data Metrics. The current data shows SkillHub ratings of 100,000, downloads of 1,184, and installations of 0. These numbers will change with platform statistics; when citing, it is recommended to use the real-time data from the official page.
Conclusion¶
The value of this Skill lies in integrating the search, download, metadata organization, and citation verification of Chinese medical literature into a single pipeline, saving the time of separately checking VIP, checking journal names/year/volume/issue, and verifying citations one by one. It is a professional category Skill maintained by a community author, requires no API Key, and has zero dependencies.
