Introduction

When running coding agents in DeepSeek Harness (DSH), a common scenario involves switching to a terminal or IDE to check branches and ahead/behind status. Information regarding which files were modified in the current turn and the progress of diff reviews is often scattered across built-in cards and logs. Additionally, there is no fixed, one-line summary for tool invocations, skill usage, or session duration.

Below is an introduction to the community plugin dsh-hud (npm package name @konnga/dsh-hud). It places three pills above the input box. Clicking the Git pill opens a floating panel to view the list of changes and diffs. It also supplements the current session’s change attribution, review progress, image before/after comparison, sidebar session summary, and allows recalling the previous prompt via the ↑ key when the input box is empty. The maintainer is konnga, categorized as a client-side plugin. The project has approximately 3 stars on GitHub and is licensed under MIT.

What is this

dsh-hud is a Heads-up display for DSH: it provides a read-only view of the current workspace’s Git status and diffs, while consolidating “which files were changed in this session, review progress, tools run, and session duration” into a single HUD line.

The host provides data via git and /dsh-hud-rpc; the client renders the pills and panels in the browser. Some capabilities rely on built-in host projections (such as sessionStats, turnOutline); if a projection does not exist, the corresponding feature is silently disabled rather than fabricating data.

Core Features

Three Pills (Above Input Box)

From left to right: Git, Tools, and Session Timer. Hover tooltips are custom-drawn bubbles by the plugin (not native browser tooltips) to ensure stable display on real devices.

Git Pill example:

dsh-hud · git:(main*) ↑1 ↓2 M4 A1 ?1 │ ●3

Meanings include: workspace name, branch (* indicates a dirty workspace), ahead/behind status relative to upstream, change counts (M modified, A added, D deleted, etc.), and the number of files confirmed changed in this session (●3). Click to open the panel.

Tool Pill displays currently running tools (with live seconds), call counts and recent results (✓/✗) for each tool, and names of used skills. When entries are too many, they collapse into +k; hover to see the full list.

Session Timer Pill displays the current session’s running duration (calculation consistent with codex-hud: now − session creation time). Hovering supplements creation time, model/tool duration, turns, and steps (from sessionStats); if the projection is absent, only wall-clock duration is shown.

Git Panel and Diff

Clicking the Git pill opens a draggable panel containing: change overview, files changed in this session (with toggles for “Only files changed in this session” and “Only changes in the latest turn”), change list, recent commits, and tags. Clicking a list row or commit row shows the diff or commit details on the right.

The diff pane supports unstaged/staged toggling, word wrap, diff copying; hunks can be collapsed. Image files (recognized by header as PNG/JPEG/GIF/WebP/BMP) provide side-by-side before/after comparison with size and byte change descriptions, and support zoom levels (default fit width, level is remembered).

The ●/◐/○ symbols at the start of change list rows indicate the relationship to session attribution; review markers at the end of rows can be clicked or toggled with v. A yellow ✓ indicates the file has new changes requiring a re-review. If review history exists, it shows Reviewed 3/8 and a “Clear Reviewed” button.

Turn-end “Image Changes in this Turn”

When the built-in “Edited N files” card does not display images, the plugin lists thumbnails of images changed in this turn at the end of the turn: click the thumbnail to open the built-in preview; click ⇄ to open the panel for before/after comparison. It displays up to 4 images plus “and N more”; if no images were changed in this turn, this item is not rendered.

Hovering or clicking the ⋯ at the end of a row shows a git summary and session attribution, such as “Changed 3 files in this session” and possible change paths inferred from commands.

Keyboard and Prompt Recall

When the panel is active, it supports shortcuts like ↑↓, Enter, [ ], n p, Space, v, r, Esc (without interfering with Cmd/Ctrl/Alt combinations or the input box).

When the input box is empty, pressing ↑ recalls the previous text-only prompt (data comes from the session log’s turnOutline); it does not take over when the input box is non-empty. The implementation is close to Lexical’s contenteditable; if the host changes its structure, it may fail and be silently disabled.

Installation and Activation

On the desktop, open “Settings → Plugins → Add Plugin” and enter the package name:

@konnga/dsh-hud

For local development, you can point the profile dependency to the repository (changes are visible immediately; client code requires an app restart to be re-read):

"@konnga/dsh-hud": "link:/path/to/dsh-hud"

The runtime environment requires Node.js >= 20 (see the project README badge for details). The current npm release version in the material is 0.9.2.

Typical Usage

  1. After installing and enabling the plugin, check if three pills appear above the input box in any session bound to a workspace.
  2. To check branch, change counts, or how many files were changed in this session, look at the leftmost Git pill; to open diffs or review lists, click the Git pill to open the panel.
  3. When reviewing code, open diffs row by row in the change list, and use v or the end-of-row marker to record reviews; for image changes, use the side-by-side view in the diff pane or the turn-end ⇄ comparison.
  4. To repeat the previous instruction, clear the input box and press ↑ (continue pressing to flip through earlier prompts).

To refresh within the panel, click ⟳ on the title bar; the widths of the diff pane and commit detail pane are draggable and remembered.

Scenarios and Notes

Suitable for: Agent developers working in DSH for long coding sessions and running tools, who wish to grasp Git status, diff review progress, tool/skill activity, and session duration without switching windows frequently.

Notes:

  • The plugin runs with the current dsh process permissions and reads the workspace git status; please review the source code and MIT license before installation to assess the trust boundary yourself.
  • The community directory skillhub.cn and GitHub are independent information sources and have no official affiliation with DeepSeek / High-Flyer; versions and features depend on the package you install.
  • Session timing, prompt recall, etc., rely on host services and projections; in the first few seconds after a session is resumed, sessionStats may not be available yet, and the plugin will retry polling as described in the README.

Conclusion

dsh-hud consolidates the Git panel, diffs and image comparison, session change attribution, review progress, tool activity, and session timer into a single line above the DSH input box, reducing the need to switch back and forth between terminals, IDEs, and chat cards.
