Preface¶
Your fridge is stuffed full, but you can’t recall which milk was bought first or which bag of vegetables is about to spoil; before cooking, you open the fridge only to stare blankly, unsure what dishes the available ingredients can make. While memos or spreadsheets can help, calculating expiration dates and prioritizing items yourself every time involves a non-trivial maintenance cost. If you want an Agent to help with recording, monitoring expiration dates, and recommending recipes through a unified workflow, you can add the community Skill “Fridge Manager” from SkillHub to clients like Cursor, using natural language to drive a fixed set of food management scripts and output formats.
What is This¶
“Fridge Manager” (Coordinates: @user_70c2f807/fridge-manager-pro, current version 1.0.1) is an Agent Skill from the SkillHub community, categorized as life-service, and maintained by the publisher user_70c2f807. The Skill page is labeled as a home assistant capability with requires_api_key=false, requiring no additional API keys.
It is triggered by phrases such as “fridge management,” “food expiration,” or “what to cook.” In conversation, it records ingredient names, quantities, and storage dates, estimates shelf life based on general standards, lists items nearing expiration, and recommends recipe combinations. It is explicitly not intended for comprehensive recipe databases, nutritional consulting, or food procurement needs.

(The SkillHub page shows approximately 892 downloads; the rating in the retrieved data is 100000, which is a display field on the platform side.)
Core Functions¶
The following capabilities are derived from the SKILL.md within the Skill package, which the Agent follows.
- Entry & Zoning: Records ingredient names, quantities, and purchase/storage dates; categorizes them by refrigerated, frozen, and room temperature; estimates shelf life and suggested consumption periods for common ingredients.
- Expiry Monitoring: Calculates remaining shelf-life days, flags ingredients nearing expiration (defined as ≤3 days in the document), sorts them by urgency, and prompts for priority usage.
- Recipe Recommendation: Analyzes combinable options based on the current inventory, prioritizes consuming near-expiry ingredients, and provides 2-3 dishes with brief preparation references.
- Inventory Update: Removes or updates quantities in the list when the user indicates an ingredient has been consumed.
- Storage Advice: Provides storage tips based on ingredient types.
Trigger keywords (Chinese and English) include: fridge management, food expiry, what to cook, fridge manager, food expiry, what to cook, and phrases requesting management of fridge contents.
Installation & Activation¶
SkillHub recommends two methods: installing via CLI to the current Agent’s skills directory, or providing the installation prompt to the AI to follow the official installation documentation.
1. Install SkillHub CLI (if not already installed)¶
command -v skillhub && skillhub --version
If not installed, you can follow the SkillHub installation documentation to perform a full installation or CLI-only installation:
curl -fsSL https://skillhub-1388575217.cos.ap-guangzhou.myqcloud.com/install/install.sh | bash
curl -fsSL https://skillhub-1388575217.cos.ap-guangzhou.myqcloud.com/install/install.sh | bash -s -- --cli-only
Instructions: https://skillhub.cn/install/skillhub.md
When installing skills, you must use --dir to point to the current client’s skills directory. Otherwise, it defaults to ./skills/, which the Agent may not be able to load.
2. Install “Fridge Manager”¶
skillhub install fridge-manager-pro --namespace user_70c2f807 --dir <your skills directory>
In Cursor, the skills directory is generally:
~/.cursor/skills/
Corresponding command example:
skillhub install fridge-manager-pro --namespace user_70c2f807 --dir ~/.cursor/skills/
Common paths for other clients (also from SkillHub installation documentation, select based on your actual tool):
- Claude Code:
~/.claude/skills/ - Codex:
~/.codex/skills/or.agents/skills/under the project
3. Use a Prompt to let AI Install¶
Standard phrasing provided on the SkillHub page:
Please install `@user_70c2f807/fridge-manager-pro` according to https://skillhub.cn/install/skillhub.md.
After installation, restart or reload the Agent to enable the new Skill (refer to your specific client’s documentation).
Typical Usage¶
The following workflow is excerpted from the “Quick Start” in the Skill documentation and can be replicated directly in conversation.
- User says “Record the ingredients I bought” → Agent asks for names and purchase dates.
- User replies, e.g., “12 eggs, 1 carton of milk, 3 tomatoes, 500g beef, bought today” → Agent records them in the list, marking suggested shelf life and best-before dates.
- User asks “What is expiring soon?” → Lists near-expiry ingredients sorted by urgency.
- User asks “What can I make with these ingredients?” → Recommends dishes based on existing ingredients.
- User says “Used up the milk, update it” → Removes or updates the corresponding item in the list.
The document also defines an output structure: zoned ingredient table (refrigerated/frozen, etc.), expiry alert block, recommended recipes block, and storage advice; status is differentiated by levels such as Fresh/Near-expiry/Expired, with a strong emphasis on pinning near-expiry items to the top.
Execution follows three steps: Record Ingredients → Monitor & Alert → Recommend Recipes (prioritize near-expiry items, recommend 2-3 dishes).
Use Cases & Precautions¶
Who is it for
- Household users accustomed to using Agents for daily logging who want a unified, tabular output of their fridge inventory.
- Those who need “First-In-First-Out” style expiry alerts and ideas for cooking within the scope of existing ingredients.
Limitations & Pitfalls (The Skill requires the Agent to state these upfront)
- Manual Entry: It cannot automatically identify items inside the fridge; users must report them item by item.
- Estimated Shelf Life: Based on general standards; actual validity depends on packaging labels and sensory inspection.
- Recipes for Reference Only: Preparation must be adjusted based on kitchen conditions; complex tutorials, nutritional calculations, food safety identification, and integration with shopping platforms are out of scope.
- Valid Only for Current Conversation: The list does not persist across sessions; the document suggests taking screenshots, copying to memos, or pasting updates in the next conversation.
- Condiments: Can be recorded but are categorized separately and have a longer shelf life.
The SkillHub page displays security scans from Konan Labs and Yunding Labs as “Safe, No Risks”; ingredient and dietary habit data is used temporarily only within the conversation as described by the Skill, with no long-term storage.
Conclusion¶
“Fridge Manager” codifies ingredient entry, expiry sorting, and simple recipe recommendations into a repeatable Agent workflow, making it suitable for use as a life-service Skill on clients like Cursor. When installing, remember the coordinates @user_70c2f807/fridge-manager-pro and --namespace user_70c2f807, and be clear about its boundaries, such as in-conversation status and estimated shelf life.
