Introduction¶
When building a DeepSeek Harness agent, giving it the ability to access real-time financial data is a common requirement. This usually requires developers to manually integrate third-party APIs. The dsh-stock-lookup plugin wraps two tools and directly addresses the “company name/ticker to real-time quote” workflow.
What Is It¶
This is a DeepSeek Harness plugin maintained by minyang-chen. It provides two core tools to agents: stock_resolve and stock_profile. The former resolves company names or partial tickers into stock symbols, while the latter retrieves real-time quotes and company profiles.
Installation and Activation¶
Install the plugin by running the following command:
dsh plugin --profile web add github:minyang-chen/dsh-stock-lookup
After installation or updating, you must restart DSH for the changes to take effect:
dsh web
Core Features¶
stock_resolve¶
This tool resolves company names, partial names, or tickers into standard stock symbols.
| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
query |
string | Yes | Company name, partial name, or ticker, for example "Apple", "nvidia", or "TSLA" |
limit |
number | No | Maximum number of results to return (1-10), default is 5 |
Returned information: ticker symbol, CIK, official company name, and direct links to SEC EDGAR filings.
stock_profile¶
This tool retrieves real-time quotes and detailed information for a specified stock ticker via Yahoo Finance.
| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
ticker |
string | Yes | Stock ticker, for example "AAPL", "NVDA", or "BRK-B" |
Returned information: includes current price, price change, P/E ratio, market capitalization, sector, industry, company description, and more.
Typical Usage¶
The agent automatically chooses the appropriate tool. The following examples can be used directly:
- Direct price query:
What is Apple's current stock price?
The agent directly calls stock_profile.
- Company name -> ticker -> profile:
What sector is Nvidia in?
The agent first calls stock_resolve to find NVDA, then calls stock_profile to retrieve the sector information.
- Fuzzy name lookup:
Look up Amazon stock
The agent resolves AMZN and provides next steps.
- Get SEC filing link:
Give me the SEC EDGAR filing link for Microsoft
The agent calls stock_resolve and returns a direct SEC EDGAR link.
- Batch lookup:
Find all companies with "apple" in the name
Returns up to 10 matching results, including ticker, CIK, and EDGAR links.
Configuration and Notes¶
Configuration Options¶
The plugin provides the following configuration:
| Option | Default Value | Description |
|---|---|---|
enabled |
true |
Whether the tools are registered |
quoteTtlMs |
15000 |
Quote cache TTL (milliseconds) |
Data Sources and Dependencies¶
- No API key: Using this plugin does not require any API key.
- External service: Relies only on Yahoo Finance for real-time data.
- SEC data: The resolution feature uses a bundled SEC EDGAR company index (approximately 10,000 U.S. public companies). The data is checked when DSH starts, and if it is older than 7 days, it is automatically refreshed from the official SEC site; if the refresh fails, the local cache is used.
Summary¶
By wrapping stock_resolve and stock_profile, dsh-stock-lookup enables agents to directly perform stock research tasks. It requires no additional configuration, depends on open data sources, and is suitable for DeepSeek Harness agent development scenarios that need to integrate financial data into conversations.
