Introduction

When DeepSeek Harness (DSH) runs in a local environment, standard tools usually can only operate on the local file system. When agents need to execute tasks in remote environments such as cloud virtual machines, high-performance GPU instances, or container clusters, developers often have to write ad hoc SSH scripts or rely on external tools. This approach suffers from unstable connections, fragile file operations (susceptible to partially written files), and a lack of conflict detection.

The dsh-remote-workspace plugin is designed to solve the above problems. It directly integrates an enterprise-level remote development subsystem into the DSH framework, providing persistent SSH2 connection pools, atomic SFTP file operations, conflict-aware three-way synchronization, and dynamic port forwarding capabilities.

Plugin Overview

  • Name: dsh-remote-workspace
  • Maintainer: GooDAnDReaDY
  • Category: Network Tool
  • Positioning: An enterprise-grade remote workspace solution for DeepSeek Harness, supporting SSH, SFTP file synchronization, and tunnels.

Core Features

The plugin provides the following capabilities through four core modules: SshService, RemoteFsService, MirrorSyncService, and TunnelService:

  1. SSH2 Connection Pool and Authentication

    • Connection Pool: Maintains reusable SSH2 sessions by host, port, and username, reducing the overhead of frequent connections.
    • Authentication Methods: Supports SSH private keys (path or PEM string), passwords, and SSH Agent.
    • Advanced Features: Supports proxyCommand mode (OpenSSH style) and Bastion host configuration, and supports heartbeat keepalive to prevent firewall disconnections.
    • Reconnection Mechanism: If a connection breaks before command output, it will attempt automatic reconnection (up to 3 times).
  2. Atomic SFTP File Operations

    • Secure Writing: When uploading files, they are first written to temporary files, then atomically renamed after completion to prevent file corruption caused by network interruptions.
    • File System Operations: Provides basic operation interfaces such as stat, listDir, recursive mkdir, and recursive remove.
  3. Conflict-Aware Three-Way Synchronization

    • State Tracking: Maintains a .dsh-sync-manifest.json baseline file in synchronized directories, recording SHA-256 hashes.
    • Conflict Detection: Compares local and remote file states before synchronization; if a conflict occurs, it stops and reports it to avoid silent overwriting.
    • Synchronization Direction: Supports pull (remote → local) and push (local → remote).
    • Smart Exclusion: Built-in default ignore rules (.git, node_modules, .DS_Store, etc.).
  4. Dynamic SSH Port Forwarding

    • Supports local port forwarding, allowing secure access to remote services (such as web services or APIs) through local ports on the DSH host.
  5. Interactive UI

    • Provides a web UI settings card for visual management of connections, configurations, and tunnels.

Environment and Dependencies

Before installing and using this plugin, the following environment requirements must be met:

  • Runtime Environment: Node.js 20 or higher.
  • DSH Version: The following Peer Dependencies (core dependencies) are required:
  • @deepseek-ai/cordis (recommended version ^4.0.1)
  • @deepseek-ai/dsh-host-webserver (recommended version ^0.1.0-rc.6)
  • @deepseek-ai/dsh-settings (recommended version ^0.1.0-rc.6)
  • @deepseek-ai/dsh-tools (recommended version ^0.1.0-rc.6)
  • @deepseek-ai/schemastery (recommended version ^3.18.1)

Usage

The plugin provides a set of tools for agents to invoke, mainly including:

  • remote_exec: Executes commands on a remote server.
  • remote_fs: Performs file system operations.
  • sync: Synchronizes files (with conflict detection).
  • tunnel: Creates SSH port forwarding.

Notes

  • Permission Security: This plugin runs with the permissions of the current DSH process. Before installation, please review the plugin’s source code and license (MIT).
  • Connection Management: Idle connection pools (with no tunnels and no running commands) are automatically closed after 30 minutes.
  • Terminal Sessions: Terminal sessions do not share the connection pool; closing a terminal only closes that SSH session.

Summary

dsh-remote-workspace fills the gap in remote operation capabilities for DeepSeek Harness. Through connection pooling, atomic file operations, and three-way synchronization mechanisms, it can handle remote development tasks securely and stably, reduce the maintenance cost of manual scripts, and improve agent collaboration in distributed environments.
