Introduction¶
In the DeepSeek Harness (DSH) ecosystem, plugins are the primary way to extend the capabilities of a Web profile. The DSH philosophy is “everything is a plugin.” This plugin aims to provide an independent private chat page for a Web profile, addressing the needs for context isolation and audit records.
Plugin Positioning¶
dsh-private-browsing is a plugin maintained by Doub1eS under the MIT license. It adds a dedicated private chat page to a DSH Web profile and provides a reversible context selection mechanism along with retention of local audit records.
Core Features¶
This plugin provides the following capabilities:
1. Adds an independent private chat page to a Web profile.
2. Supports excluding selected messages from future model requests.
3. Supports restoring previously excluded messages into the context.
4. Allows inspecting or exporting append-only audit records.
5. Ensures the model does not receive any tools.
Installation and Enablement¶
Before installing, ensure that the DSH version is 0.1.5-rc.1 or a compatible higher prerelease version, and that a Web profile and model provider have been configured.
dsh plugin --profile web add github:Doub1eS/dsh-Private-Browsing
dsh --profile web
After installation, click the pinned Private chat button on the DSH page to enter the standalone page.
Typical Usage¶
- Usage: Open private chat from the pinned button.
- Uninstall: To remove it, run:
dsh plugin --profile web remove dsh-private-browsing
- Development Validation: Run the following commands to perform automated checks and a packaging preview:
npm install
npm test
npm pack --dry-run
Use Cases and Caveats¶
- Context exclusion instead of secure deletion: This is context exclusion, not secure deletion. Records are stored in plaintext and inherit host filesystem protections.
- Request revocation limitation: Hidden content cannot undo requests already sent to the model provider; subsequent responses may repeat earlier content, which must be excluded separately.
- Isolation boundary: The isolation guarantee applies only to the data this plugin selects for model requests. It is not a process sandbox against machine administrators, configuration providers, DSH itself, or other trusted in-process plugins.
- Tool limitation: This version does not manage standard DSH chat or tool execution.
- API security: API routes reuse DSH Web authentication and host checks, and reject oversized or malformed requests.
- Data storage: Append-only JSONL logs are retained by default under
$DSH_HOME/private-browsing. - Capacity limit: Unless the bundle configuration is modified, each session is limited to 16 MiB.
Conclusion¶
This plugin provides basic context isolation and audit functionality, suitable for scenarios that require temporary conversations while retaining records in a DSH Web environment. The source code and license information are available on GitHub.
