Introduction¶
In the Web mode of DeepSeek Harness (DSH), developers typically interact with AI conversations in the browser. When managing code changes, reviewing commit history, or syncing remote repositories, frequently switching to a terminal or IDE can interrupt the workflow. The dsh-sidebar plugin integrates Git operations directly into the browser interface, bringing source control capabilities into the right-hand pane of DSH.
Plugin Overview¶
dsh-sidebar is a Git sidebar plugin for DeepSeek Harness Web, maintained by developer auggie246. It allows users to review changes, stage files, write commits, sync with remotes, and browse the commit graph without leaving the browser.
Core Features¶
The plugin provides the following core capabilities:
- Source Control and File Browsing: Provides a read-only file browser (Explorer card) that shows staged, unstaged, untracked, and conflicted files.
- Git Operations: Supports staging, unstaging, discarding, committing, pulling, and pushing.
- Commit Graph: Visualizes branches, tags, remotes, and merge flows, with infinite scrolling.
- Bottom Panel: Provides file preview, Markdown rendering, diff comparison, and a live terminal.
Installation and Activation¶
This plugin must be installed in an environment where DSH Web is already installed.
- Ensure that Git is installed on the host.
- Run the installation command:
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-sidebar
- Restart DSH Web.
- Select the arrow at the right edge of the page to open the sidebar.
After installation, the plugin automatically tracks the repository of the current session’s workspace. If the workspace is not a Git repository, the sidebar displays an empty state. Synchronization operations (fetch/pull/push) use the Git credentials and SSH configuration already configured on the DSH Web host; the plugin does not store credentials.
Notes¶
- Discard Operation: Discarding permanently removes changes. Selecting it twice completely deletes file changes (for untracked files, the files are deleted directly).
- Permission Sandbox: All Git operations are restricted by the DSH file sandbox and are limited to the workspace.
- DSH 0.1.5 Limitation: In DSH 0.1.5, the plugin occupies the right-hand pane (Rightbar), overriding the built-in sidebar panel. Even if the sidebar is closed, the right-hand pane remains under the plugin’s control, and only the plugin’s own controls are displayed on screen.
- Priority Rule: If other plugins also use this column, the registration with the lowest priority wins.
- Feature Positioning: The commit graph is primarily intended for everyday history browsing, not as a full replacement for a Git GUI.
Ecosystem Context¶
DSH follows the design philosophy that “everything is a plugin.” This plugin is licensed under the MIT License and can be installed via npm or from the GitHub source.
