Preface¶
The core philosophy of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin.” When integrating internet search capabilities into agent development, directly calling the APIs of Z.ai or Zhipu AI usually requires additional configuration and development work. The dsh-web-search-zai plugin encapsulates the search capabilities of both providers into DSH’s native configuration system, allowing developers to use search features directly within the DSH environment.
Plugin Positioning¶
This is a web-enabled tool plugin maintained by community developer kenny2077. It allows you to directly call the APIs of Z.ai or Zhipu AI through DeepSeek Harness to perform web searches. The plugin provides a settings card in both English and Chinese, supports both Coding Plan quota and REST API billing modes, and reuses the existing ZAI_API_KEY credential.
Core Features¶
- Multi-source search: Supports using the search APIs of Z.ai or Zhipu AI.
- Native configuration: Provides a bilingual English/Chinese settings interface, with configuration items under the
web-search-zainamespace. - Dual billing modes: Supports Coding Plan MCP quota by default and also supports REST API billing.
- Credential reuse: Reuses the existing
ZAI_API_KEYin DSH, with no need to enter it repeatedly.
Installation and Activation¶
Before installing, make sure that your DeepSeek Harness has the web settings service enabled and that your runtime environment meets the following requirements:
* Node.js 22.19+ or 24+.
Use the official installation command to add the plugin to the web configuration file:
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-web-search-zai@latest
dsh web
If you prefer to install the latest build directly from GitHub:
dsh plugin --profile web add github:kenny2077/dsh-web-search-zai
Typical Usage¶
After installation, use the dsh web command to open the Web interface. In settings, find the Web Search (Z.ai) card and configure the following:
- Select the billing mode: In the card, choose Coding Plan (subscribed MCP quota) or API (API balance).
- Configure the key: If DSH already has the correct
ZAI_API_KEYconfigured, leave the input field empty to retain the shared key; otherwise, enter the key manually. Entering a plaintext key overrides credential management. - Select the provider: The default is the Z.ai international version. To use the Zhipu China version, enable “Use Zhipu (China)” in the advanced settings and save.
After saving the configuration, you can initiate web search requests in DSH. The plugin runs with the permissions of the current DSH process, and search requests directly consume the quota of the selected service (Coding Plan or API).
Use Cases and Notes¶
- Use cases: Developers who need to integrate internet search capabilities into DeepSeek Harness agents.
- Notes:
- This is a community plugin; inclusion in the community directory does not imply official endorsement by DeepSeek or Z.ai.
- It is recommended to review the source code and license (MIT) before installation.
- Even without initiating conversational inference requests, performing a search operation consumes quota.
- Keys are stored in DSH’s credential management; browsers do not directly read the stored keys.
Summary¶
This plugin introduces the search capabilities of Z.ai and Zhipu into DeepSeek Harness through a unified interface, simplifying the configuration process. You can install it via npm package management or view details in the community directory.
