In the plugin ecosystem of DeepSeek Harness (DSH), desktop interaction is one component that improves the user experience beyond functional enhancements. dsh-ventus-whale is a desktop plugin called “Blue Big Fat Fish,” which transforms the geometric shape of DeepSeek’s orca logo into an interactive 3D desktop pet that floats on the right side of the Web interface.

Core Features

  • 3D Model and Animations: The model is reconstructed with a swept approach based on the outline of DeepSeek’s orca logo. It includes tail fins, a dorsal fin, pectoral fins, and blinking animations, and supports a transparent background.
  • Interactive Controls: Left-click dragging supports rotation (arcball + inertia), while right-clicking or using the “Drag” button allows free positioning. Single-clicking the heart and double-clicking to bounce are also supported.
  • Action Triggers: Sending a message can automatically trigger a 360° front flip (can be disabled), or manually trigger one by clicking the “Spin” button in the hover toolbar.
  • Toolbar and Settings: The toolbar appears on hover (supports rename, reset, drag, heart toggle, and spin); on touchscreen devices, it can be invoked by tapping. Settings include size (the window scales while the whale remains fully visible), sensitivity, and displayed text. Settings use a draft-style save/cancel workflow.
  • Lightweight Design: The three.js code is inlined into the client bundle (about 124KB gzip). Rendering frame rate is reduced when idle, and rendering stops when hidden.

Installation

Install the plugin with the DSH CLI:

dsh plugin --profile web add github:mmzm0808/dsh-ventus-whale#v0.1.0

After installation, restart DSH; the new bundle layer will be loaded at startup.

Usage

  • Summon/Hide: Click the 🐋 button at the bottom of the sidebar (next to settings). By default, it docks in the middle of the right side of the viewport and can be moved by dragging.
  • Interaction: Left-click drag to rotate, right-click or use the “Drag” button to move, and hover over the toolbar to rename, reset, toggle the heart, or spin.
  • Configuration: Go to “Settings” → “Ventus Plugin” → “Big Fat Fish Desktop Pet,” adjust the size, sensitivity, or text, then click “Save.”

Data and Security

  • The configuration file is stored at ~/.dsh/dsh-ventus-whale/config. (using atomic writes + fsync).
  • The following API endpoints are provided, all loopback-only (accessible only from the local machine): /api/ventus-whale/state, /api/ventus-whale/update, /api/ventus-whale/reset.

Notes

  • Performance: When hidden, the plugin performs zero rendering to save resources.
  • Model Source: The model geometry is derived from a swept reconstruction of the outline of DeepSeek’s orca logo.
  • License: MIT License.
  • Maintainer: mmzm0808.

Summary

dsh-ventus-whale provides a lightweight, customizable desktop companion feature with a reasonable level of interactivity. For developers or users who want to add personalized visual elements to the DSH interface, it is a practical choice.
