Introduction¶
The core design philosophy of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin,” which allows developers to enhance system capabilities with extension components. Better Sidebar is an important front-end component of DSH, but normally users can only maintain a single conversation flow in the main session. When you need to perform parallel thinking, tool calls, or code debugging within the same context without interrupting the main thread, the dsh-side-chat plugin provides a solution.
Plugin Overview¶
dsh-side-chat is a DSH Better Sidebar plugin designed to provide an independent conversation panel similar to Codex side questions. It is maintained by developer willwang0098. It allows users to fork a new independent side session from the most recently completed turn of the current main session, enabling multi-threaded conversation.
Core Features¶
This plugin implements the following core capabilities:
1. Session forking: fork an independent side session from the most recently completed turn of the current main session.
2. Context inheritance and isolation: inherit the context while hiding the history before the fork, showing only newly added side-chat messages.
3. Streaming interaction: read history and stream session/event over the current API connection.
4. Full feature support: support reasoning, tool calls, Markdown rendering, as well as stopping and re-branching.
5. Input interaction: support copying the answer or placing the answer directly into the main chat input box draft.
6. Persistence: side session IDs are persisted by main session into Sidebar tab meta and localStorage.
Installation and Enabling¶
After installing the plugin to the current web profile, you need to restart the DSH Web service. This is because the plugin is loaded through the Cordis patch mechanism, and restarting the service ensures the plugin is correctly reloaded.
Typical Usage¶
After installation, users can perform a fork operation in the main session. The sidebar displays a new independent session window that inherits the main session’s context but shows only newly added messages. In this window, users can perform independent reasoning, tool calls, or Markdown interactions. The session state is automatically saved in sidebar tab metadata and local storage, and persists after refreshing the page.
Use Cases and Notes¶
This plugin is suitable for scenarios that require multi-task processing over the same API connection, such as code debugging, multi-step reasoning, or parallel testing.
Note that the plugin runs with the permissions of the current DSH process. Before installation, it is recommended to review the source code and license to ensure compliance with your usage requirements.
Summary¶
dsh-side-chat adds a lightweight multi-threaded conversation capability to DSH Better Sidebar, making it suitable for developers who need deep contextual interaction. For more details, please refer to the official documentation or the GitHub repository.
