About this skill
What Problem It Solves
When you only have a text prompt, a single photo, or several reference shots, but need something you can review for 3D modeling, texturing, animation preview, or production communication, 3D Modeling Expert turns that input into a set of inspectable 3D asset reference renders. It does not deliver .obj, .fbx, or .stl files directly; instead, it produces engineering-oriented visual references such as orthographic views, clay renders, PBR material previews, topology wireframes, and exploded diagrams.
How It Works
The skill first chooses a workflow:
- Fast track: for simple, explicit requests such as “product render of a red mug,” it skips detailed validation and generates the target render directly.
- Full workflow: for complex objects or multi-stage output, it follows input parsing → mode confirmation → clay validation → process selection → consistent delivery.
The key anchor is the first clay multi-view pass, usually front, side, and top, or expanded to four or six views. This pass locks proportions, silhouette, and structural relationships, and later material, topology, and component breakdown renders try to stay aligned with that confirmed geometry. Available process outputs include:
- tri-view / six-view: usable as modeling blueprints or structural reference sheets.
- clay render: useful for checking proportion, silhouette, and form.
- PBR materials: previews of albedo, roughness, metallic, and normal-related surface behavior.
- low-poly topology: visualized edge loops, pole placement, and mesh density.
- semantic UV / texture preview: UV island layout plus albedo, normal, roughness, and metallic maps.
- exploded view: component relationships and assembly context.
- keyframe sheets: a practical substitute for rotation, walk cycles, or other motion previews.
Version 2.0 also adds output-size guidance, file naming conventions, cost transparency, and retry logic. For example, presentation decks often suit 1920×1080, square e-commerce images suit 1024×1024, and multi-view blueprints work better at 1536×1024. If generation fails, the skill adjusts prompts, retries, or falls back to more stable formats such as blueprint sheets or keyframe grids.
Scope and Limitations
It works best for objects, props, products, scenes, and concept design references. It is not a substitute for a real DCC-ready 3D asset pipeline. If the user needs actual model files, animated video, interactive 3D preview, or high-fidelity human portraits, the realistic workflow is to use this output as early visual reference, then hand the result to a modeler, texture artist, or animator for final production.
Use Cases
- A product manager turns a short mug description and one photo into a clay four-view sheet and PBR render for appearance alignment.
- An industrial designer generates an exploded view and semantic UV layout to annotate parts and material zones for factory assembly discussion.
- A game artist uses text to create low-poly topology and texture previews before handing the reference to a modeler for wiring and normal detail work.
Best For
- Industrial designers who need to turn text concepts into reviewable product appearance renders quickly
- Hardware product owners who need part-breakdown and material-zone references for supplier discussions
- Game artists who need to turn reference photos into multi-view blueprints and texture previews
