About this skill

The Problem

Files on a personal PC often end up scattered by creation time or app defaults, so finding the right version requires repeated searching. Missing order in names, mixed revisions, and over-nested folders increase lookup and backup friction. This skill turns numeric prefixes, date suffixes, two-level flat structure, and usage-based categories into a clear method you can explain or execute.

How It Works

  • Methodology: Uses references/methodology.md to explain the eight root categories from 01 Work to 08 Archive, naming rules, and category boundaries.
  • Scaffolding: scaffold_structure.py creates missing folders in a specified root without moving or deleting existing files.
  • Bulk Naming: add_prefix.py adds fixed-width numeric prefixes; add_date_suffix.py appends _YYYYMMDD before the file extension.
  • Safe Execution: Scripts default to DRY-RUN; actual changes require explicit --apply, so users can review before and after states first.

Boundaries

It is suitable for a personal drive, project drive, or specified directory. It does not target Desktop, Downloads, or Documents unless explicitly requested. Deletion and “decluttering” must be done manually by the user; batch renaming should be done in small batches to avoid changing too many paths at once.

Use Cases

  • Scaffold an eight-category root folder on a new work drive.
  • Add 01/02 numeric prefixes to specified project folders.
  • Append 20260622-style date suffixes to selected checklists.
  • Suggest flat two-level naming with prefix and date rules.

Best For

  • Project manager needing stable order for a work drive.
  • Ops manager needing date suffixes to track document versions.
  • Engineer needing numeric prefixes for a shared drive.
  • Product manager separating study and reference knowledge by use.
