About this skill

Problem

Early cardiopulmonary issues in pets can show up as elevated resting respiratory rate or irregular rhythm, but owners often lack continuous, non-contact baseline reference. This skill analyzes a pet at rest—sleeping or lying still—by detecting thoracic and abdominal motion from a fixed camera, estimating breaths-per-minute, and comparing the value against species, weight, age, and breed-specific resting baselines.

How It Works

  • Input constraints: supports mp4, avi, and mov videos up to 10MB; a clip of at least 60 seconds is recommended, and the pet should be sleeping or lying still for at least 1 minute.
  • Processing path: the skill uses scripts/smyx_respiratory_rate_abnormal_detect_analysis.py to call an API with local files or public URLs; the API service downloads network resources automatically.
  • Decision logic: it compares resting respiratory rate using species, body size, age, and brachycephalic-breed differences, then classifies results as normal, mildly elevated, elevated, or severely abnormal.
  • Report output: historical report lists can extract reportImageUrl and render a Markdown table with report name, pet type, analysis time, and a report link.

Boundaries

The output is for wellness observation only and is not a medical diagnosis or treatment recommendation. Active states, brief breathing, camera occlusion, or non-resting conditions can make results unstable. Older pets, brachycephalic dogs and cats, pets with prior cardiac history, or overweight individuals should be evaluated with a veterinarian.

Use Cases

  • After filming a resting cat for 60 seconds with a fixed camera, analyze whether its respiratory rate is above baseline.
  • When a dog owner uploads an mp4 clip of still rest after activity, call the API to estimate BPM and return the alert level.
  • When summarizing historical reports, extract `reportImageUrl` and render a Markdown table with report names and links.
  • When checking a brachycephalic dog's elevated resting respiratory rate, use breed baselines and a 5-minute clip to flag severe alerts.

Best For

  • Pet owners who want to watch for abnormal resting respiratory signs using home-camera video
  • Pet care consultants who need to turn short-video results into reviewable report tables
  • Veterinary assistants monitoring baseline respiratory concerns in older pets and brachycephalic breeds
  • Embedded application developers who batch-process resting pet videos via API and emit wellness alerts
