About this skill

Problem

Excel generation often fails at presentation: fonts fall back to Calibri, mixed Chinese and English fonts create uneven rows, clipped text from missing row heights, column overflow, #DIV/0! errors, and inconsistent printing across Windows, macOS, and Linux. For advisory workpapers, the file must also remain auditable, with linked sources, clear labels, and reproducible calculations.

How It Works

The skill applies MOWAYS Excel standards through openpyxl. It first checks dependencies, available system fonts, file integrity, column width overflow, and merged-cell conflicts. It then uses a baseline-plus-override font strategy: all data cells default to FangSong, while numeric, English, and date columns are overridden to Times New Roman; titles and headers use SimHei. It sets company name, date, header units, total rows, section headings, thin borders, thousands separators, percentage and date formats, and wraps formulas with IFERROR. Row heights are estimated from column width, wrap text, and font size to avoid clipped content. For existing files, it saves a copy, reports nonconforming cells, and fixes issues item by item.

Boundaries And Caveats

This fits structured sheet creation, styling, and compliance review. It is not intended for unstructured text with no column definitions, nor as a replacement for pivot tables, advanced charts, or large-scale ETL work. It pauses for confirmation when data volume is large, required fonts are unavailable, layout requirements conflict, or modifying someone else's workbook is requested, instead of silently choosing an option.

Use Cases

  • Generate a compensation worksheet for an advisory project with standardized headers and no Calibri fallback.
  • Review a client budget workbook, list font, row-height, and formula issues, then fix them in a copy.
  • Create a Chinese project tracker on macOS by mapping SimHei and FangSong to available CJK fonts.
  • Prepare a printable allocation sheet with thousands separators, IFERROR formulas, and A4 layout checks.

Best For

  • Advisors who need standardized, auditable, print-ready Excel workpapers.
  • Financial analysts who build budget, payroll, and allocation sheets with consistent fonts and formulas.
  • Operations leads who review team submissions for unified layout and error-value rules.
  • Automation engineers who generate standardized .xlsx files with openpyxl and failure checkpoints.
