About this skill

Problem: Cocktail Q&A tends to drift on experience

Cocktail questions look simple but involve exact amounts, technique parameters, glassware, garnish logic, and material sourcing. Answering from memory can produce vague “to taste”, wrong ratios, technique misused as garnish, or homemade ingredient recipes that cannot be reproduced. For recipe checking, new drink development, or classic verification, the need is a traceable, quantified, verifiable workflow.

How the skill works

The skill organizes cocktail references into a local knowledge set and reads the relevant references files before answering, instead of relying on model memory.

  • Classics: check iba-cocktails-web.csv and iba-cocktails.json first, then famous bar signatures.
  • History: use cocktail-classics.md for origin, inventors, and cultural context.
  • New drink design: follow recipe-design.md from concept, root recipe, similar structures, draft, cross-check, and technique parameters.
  • Techniques and ingredients: take full parameters for milk wash, slow infusion, soaking, clarification, fat washing, foam, syrup, Bitters, Shrubs, Cordials from techniques.md and homemade-ingredients.md.
  • Bar details: use glassware-garnish-ice.md for glass, garnish, and ice choices.

It requires amounts in ml, avoids emoji in formal output, and keeps recipes source-backed. If a reference is missing, it says so instead of guessing.

Limits

It fits recipe verification, draft development, technique lookup, and bar knowledge notes, but does not replace real test runs, food-safety judgment, or professional bar operations. For batch prep, realign “single drink × servings = output”; for homemade ingredients, confirm local materials and equipment are feasible.

Use Cases

  • Check IBA classic cocktail recipes for exact ml amounts, glassware, and garnish
  • Draft a new cocktail using concept, root recipe, similar structures, and common errors
  • Look up parameters and feasibility risks for milk wash, clarification, and fat wash
  • Design homemade Bitters, Shrubs, or Cordials and verify required materials

Best For

  • Bartenders who want to reproduce classic cocktails using exact IBA amounts
  • Bar managers who need to develop original cocktails and verify technique parameters
  • Cocktail enthusiasts who want to make homemade Bitters or Shrubs
  • Cocktail competitors who prepare entries and analyze award-winning trends
