About this skill

Problem It Solves

Markdown is useful for engineering collaboration, but technical specifications, reports, and chapter drafts often need Word delivery. Copying from Markdown can lose code highlighting, tables, TOC, and Chinese typography, while manually merging chapter files can create heading-level and pagination problems. This skill converts README.md, technical reports, and multi-file drafts into .docx files while preserving structure.

How It Works and Limits

The core is scripts/convert.py: it prefers pypandoc with bundled Pandoc and falls back to markdown-it-py plus python-docx. Single-file conversion can control page size, fonts, line spacing, TOC, code highlighting, and image embedding; Chinese documents get defaults such as 等线, 黑体, and zh-CN metadata. Multi-file merge can treat each file as a chapter, with page breaks inserted in the Python path. After conversion, verify headings, images, and table borders; complex layouts such as headers, footers, covers, and watermarks should be handled by a later docx skill. Limits: LaTeX math depends on Pandoc extensions, very large files should be split, and missing system fonts can still affect rendering.

Use Cases

  • A specification author converts a Markdown technical proposal to Word with code highlighting, TOC, and tables preserved.
  • A docs maintainer exports `README.md` or a technical report to `.docx` without manually copying and losing formatting.
  • A multi-chapter author merges several Markdown files into one Word document with chapter structure and page breaks.
  • A Chinese document author needs default 等线, 黑体, `zh-CN` metadata, and TOC behavior during conversion.

Best For

  • Specification engineers who convert Markdown technical proposals into deliverable Word files while keeping code blocks, TOC, and tables.
  • Docs maintainers who export README files or technical reports to Word and want to avoid manual copy formatting drift.
  • Multi-chapter authors who merge several Markdown chapters into one Word document and need chapter pagination.
  • Chinese document authors who need Chinese font defaults, TOC behavior, and `zh-CN` metadata during conversion.
