About this skill

Problem

In kitchens for solo-living elders or care facilities, a gas stove left on while unattended is a fire risk. Detecting only people or only flames is not enough: someone standing nearby may not make the situation safe, and visible flame may still be forgotten. The practical problem is combining human presence with stove heat state and alerting when the kitchen remains unattended beyond a threshold.

How it works

The skill analyzes fixed-camera video covering the stove area. It accepts local files or video URLs, including mp4, avi, and mov. The pipeline detects human activity in the kitchen, recognizes visible-light flame or infrared/thermal heat signatures, infers whether the gas stove is likely on, tracks unattended duration, and triggers tiered alerts when the default 10-minute threshold is exceeded. It returns a structured report with risk notes, recommendations, and report links. Historical cloud reports can be queried, and options such as --list, --url, and --detail control analysis, input source, and output granularity.

Boundaries

This is an auxiliary monitoring tool, not a substitute for human verification, emergency response, or gas-safety procedures. When an alert fires, confirm the situation immediately by phone, in-person check, or controlled integration. Input footage should clearly cover the stove; infrared or thermal channels can improve heat detection. Kitchen video involves household privacy, so obtain consent from relevant parties before use.

Use Cases

  • Review kitchen camera video at a care center to find unattended stove-on risk and generate alerts
  • Check a solo-living elder's kitchen records and filter historical left-on stove reports by date
  • Integrate kitchen stove video into a smart-home platform to infer stove state and output shutdown advice
  • Use community senior canteen surveillance to recheck forgotten stove risks and archive analysis results

Best For

  • Elder care worker: quickly review unattended stove alerts and reports
  • Smart-home integration engineer: connect stove state and valve-shutoff advice to a security platform
  • Solo-living elder's family member: query historical kitchen left-on reports and confirm risk periods
  • Community canteen safety manager: analyze unattended stove-on scenes from kitchen video and retain results
