About this skill

Problem Solved

When a workday gets busy, it is easy to forget to drink enough water. Daily Water Tracker keeps the goal simple and lightweight: count cups, check today's progress, and track consecutive days. It is useful when you do not want a full health dashboard.

How It Works

  • Log intake: use log [n] to add n cups, with a default of 1 cup.
  • Check progress: use show to see today's count against the target.
  • Track consistency: use streak to see consecutive days on target.

The skill relies on water.py and stores records in ~/.health/water.jsonl. Each entry can be treated as an appended log line, while show and streak summarize the stored lines into daily progress and consecutive goal days. If you want to change the target, update the target setting or format before continuing to log.

Boundaries and Caveats

This is a lightweight personal habit tracker, not a complete hydration analysis, diet log, or device-synced health system. Because the data is local, avoid deleting the log directory if you still need streak history. If the target cup count is not fixed, show may be less meaningful, so define a target first.

Use Cases

  • Log one glass with `log 1` between coding tasks and check today's gap with `show`.
  • Add two cups with `log 2` after finishing a task so progress is not lost from memory.
  • Review consecutive goal days with `streak` before deciding tomorrow's target cups.
  • Maintain local records in `~/.health/water.jsonl` and summarize daily intake with `show`.

Best For

  • Software engineers who code for long stretches: want quick cup logging and today's goal progress.
  • Product managers writing long documents: need a simple hydration habit and consecutive-day tracking.
  • Terminal-oriented users: prefer lightweight local logs for personal health check-ins.
  • Remote workers: need a fixed water target and `streak` visibility for daily consistency.
