About this skill

Problem

Technical writing often stalls on vague briefs, self-satisfied first drafts, and feedback that is too polite to change the structure. critical-writing treats writing as an inspectable process instead of a one-shot generation task.

Workflow

  • Intake: confirm the purpose, existing arguments, and desired output form, then ask the user to validate the plan.
  • Critics: summon 2-3 distinct critics to identify issues, quote the draft, and note what should be preserved.
  • Debate: force disagreement between critics so the revision is driven by conflict rather than agreement.
  • Arbitration: separate consensus fixes from open conflicts, give the author a reasoned recommendation, and output a full rewrite.

Boundaries

Useful for technical posts, design docs, and argument-driven articles where structure matters. It may be too heavy for quick summaries, translations, or formatting-only tasks.

Use Cases

  • After drafting a technical post, use multiple critic perspectives to expose argument gaps and produce a rewrite
  • Before a design doc, confirm purpose, audience, and evidence, then plan structure and enter critique rounds
  • After an opinion article, debate concision versus reader action, then prioritize arbitration-driven edits
  • Run critic trigger scans on a draft to flag overclaims and vague conclusions while preserving strong points

Best For

  • Engineers writing technical posts who want self-satisfied paragraphs rewritten with supporting arguments
  • Architects drafting design docs who need hidden assumptions in trade-offs exposed and prioritized
  • Content editors running reviews who prefer multi-role debate over a single opinion and clearer core conflicts
  • Developers preparing public opinion pieces who want real critic disagreement rather than generic praise
