About this skill

Problem

This skill addresses a narrow but common office task: a PPTX deck contains Chinese text and must be delivered in English, while preserving the existing layout. Simple find-and-replace is not enough because some decks mix Chinese in text boxes, native tables, and charts rendered as images.

How It Works

The skill first checks where the Chinese appears. If all Chinese is in text boxes, it uses in-place replacement: extract Chinese paragraphs, build a translations.tsv dictionary, and replace runs with a longest-first matching order, then verify that no Chinese characters remain. If Chinese is embedded inside images, it switches to a chart-redrawing workflow: infer chart content from user input or surrounding text, regenerate the chart with Python and matplotlib, and embed the English chart back into the slide. It also standardizes terminology, for example using HCC for hepatocellular carcinoma instead of a bare organ name.

Boundaries

It works best on stable PPTX files with text boxes, native tables, or redrawn charts. It is less reliable for complex vector graphics, heavy animations, embedded objects, or image text that cannot be reconstructed from context. Chinese quotation marks, split text runs, large files, and residual Chinese inside images are the main things to check.

Use Cases

  • Replace Chinese text boxes in an academic PPTX deck with English while preserving layout and checking residuals.
  • Redraw a bar chart or Venn diagram whose Chinese labels are embedded in an image using matplotlib.
  • Standardize oncology slide terms such as liver cancer to HCC and renal cancer to RCC before delivery.
  • Download a large PPTX from IMA, replace Chinese text, and verify that no Chinese characters remain.

Best For

  • Researchers preparing oncology conference slides who need Chinese case reports translated into accurate English terminology.
  • Graduate students finalizing thesis or project PPTs who need original layout preserved without leftover Chinese in charts.
  • Operations or product colleagues delivering English materials who need an existing Chinese PPT converted and translation coverage checked.
  • Technical support engineers handling IMA knowledge-base files who need large PPTX downloads plus text replacement verification.
