About this skill

Problem

Ornamental fish color fading can vary with lighting, feeding, and temporary stress, so a single saturation threshold or visual check is unreliable. This is especially true when fish in the same tank differ in color depth, or when breeding marriage colors darken or stress causes temporary dullness. This skill quantifies whether side-view images deviate from the expected color range for the selected species subtype.

How It Works

  • Input gating: requires a white card, gray card, or ColorChecker in frame, side-view capture, and ≥1080p; otherwise returns color_signal_unreliable.
  • Color quantification: applies white-balance correction, lighting normalization, and body segmentation, then extracts trunk HSV-S, HSV-V, mean/std, and dominant hue distribution.
  • Baseline comparison: matches the species_subtype baseline, computes palette similarity and z-score.
  • Output: returns vibrancy_score_0_100, 7d/30d trends, info/important/urgent/warning alert levels, and a report keyed by tank_id + fish_id + evaluation timestamp.

Boundaries and Notes

It provides color analytics and neutral management suggestions only; it does not diagnose disease, prescribe medication or dosages, or recommend specific feed brands. If the white reference is missing, segmentation confidence is low, or lighting is poor, retake, relight, or place a white card first. For persistent severe deviation or multiple fish in the same tank dulling at once, consult a local ornamental-fish vet or experienced hobbyist.

Use Cases

  • A hobbyist captures weekly side-view tank photos with a white card and checks whether a Tancho koi's trunk color deviates from its baseline.
  • An aquarium curator reviews Galaxy angelfish side-view images against 7-day and 30-day trends to decide whether to trigger a full check alert.
  • A breeding technician compares HSV-S, HSV-V, and palette match after feeding to distinguish a short-term color boost from fading.
  • An experienced keeper queries historical reports by tank_id and fish_id to see if scores have stayed at Level 3 for 14 days.

Best For

  • Fish hobbyists who capture weekly side-view photos and want quantified vibrancy scores with 7-day and 30-day trends.
  • Aquarium managers running multiple koi, goldfish, or angelfish tanks who need species-subtype baselines and tiered alerts.
  • Breeding technicians tracking how breeding, feeding, and lighting changes affect color without misreading stress or marriage coloration.
  • Experienced keepers who review historical reports to decide when sustained severe fading warrants contacting a local ornamental-fish vet.
