About this skill

Problem

After batch collecting student PPTs, exporting slides one by one creates orphaned files, while exporting whole decks as PDF makes it hard to review by student. This skill targets a narrower workflow: group every N slides into one vertical image and name it by the extracted student name.

How It Works

It processes .pptx or .ppt files through a fixed pipeline:

  • Platform routing: On Windows it prefers WPS or PowerPoint COM and falls back to LibreOffice; on macOS and Linux it uses LibreOffice to convert PPTX to PDF, then renders pages to PNG with PyMuPDF.
  • Name extraction: Slides are grouped by SLIDES_PER_GROUP, default 3. It first looks for patterns like “XX同学”, then for standalone 2–5 character Chinese names, and otherwise falls back to unknown_student_N.
  • Export and merge: Each slide is exported at 1920x1080. Pillow stacks them vertically with 20px white padding. A final partial group is still merged.
  • Output handling: Filenames use cleaned student names, defaulting to PNG and optionally JPG. Outputs are saved under merged_slides/图片/, and temporary slide images are removed.

Scope and Caveats

It suits structured course reports or student assignments, not general PPT editing. It does not modify slide content or infer names from complex layouts. If the total slide count is not divisible by SLIDES_PER_GROUP, the last group merges the remaining slides. WPS, PowerPoint, or LibreOffice must be available before export.

Use Cases

  • At the end of a term, merge each student's three-slide assignment PPT into one PNG named by student.
  • After receiving a batch of student reports, export every three slides as 1920x1080 grouped images for review.
  • On macOS without PowerPoint, convert course PPTs into merged slide images using LibreOffice.
  • Process multiple .pptx files in a folder sequentially and generate slide images named by student.

Best For

  • Instructors who need to archive course PPTs by student name
  • Teaching assistants who batch-export student reports
  • Teachers processing course PPTs on macOS or Linux
  • Academic staff converting multiple course assignments into images
