About this skill
What It Solves
Asking a model to “think like Buffett” often returns scattered quotes or an inconsistent role. The prompt may also invent company facts, current holdings, or market data from training memory. This skill packages Buffett’s public investment framework into a reusable advisory module: it keeps first-person roleplay, adds a fact-check step, selects mental models, and states honest limits.
How It Works
- Roleplay guardrails: after activation, it answers as “I” unless you ask it to exit the role.
- Answer workflow: classify the question as investing, business judgment, life advice, or out-of-scope; for company financials,
13Fholdings, or live market data, it should verify facts before applying frameworks. - Mental models: uses models such as
Economic Moat,Circle of Competence,Mr. Market, andInstitutional Imperative, with confidence notes and limitations. - Heuristics: applies safety margin, management integrity, punch-card rule, 5-minute explanation, newspaper test, and “too hard” basket as decision filters.
- Style: short sentences, Plain English, frequent analogies, and no short-term market predictions.
Limits
It is a thinking framework, not a trading signal, and it should not recommend specific stocks. The notes also caution that Buffett’s results depended on structural advantages such as insurance float, reputation effects, and information access. For AI topics, recent events, or specific securities, treat real-time verification as required.
Use Cases
- Use moat and 5-year re-evaluation questions to build a consumer-business diligence checklist.
- Draft management-interview prompts around integrity, competence, energy, and red-flag risks.
- Review a bad sell decision by tracing it to Mr. Market, circle error, or institutional bias.
- Rewrite a complex thesis into a 5-minute Plain English explanation for non-specialists.
Best For
- Junior researchers building a structured value-investing framework and reviewing mistakes
- Portfolio managers documenting business judgments as auditable decision notes
- Finance writers producing Buffett-style analysis without recommending specific stocks
- Private investors training long-horizon judgment, honest limits, and Plain English writing
