About this skill
Problem to Solve
In ops or collaboration work, you may need to send a local file to someone outside the network without keeping a public port open. file-share-link targets short-lived, low-config file sharing over HTTPS.
How It Works
The skill exposes a local file through a temporary tunnel and produces an external link. Key steps include:
- starts a local HTTP server on a random port
- creates a Cloudflare Tunnel with cloudflared
- generates a link such as https://xxx.trycloudflare.com
- checks whether the link is reachable
- shuts down the service and cleans up resources after 30 minutes
It is intended for macOS and Linux, requires Python 3, and downloads about 40MB of cloudflared on first run.
Boundaries
The link expires after 30 minutes, and files above 1GB are not recommended. Be careful with sensitive data; press Ctrl+C to stop it early.
Use Cases
- Send an exported customer report from a workstation to an external recipient without opening a public port.
- Create a short-lived HTTPS download link for a log archive on a Linux server for another engineer.
- Share local build output with a remote teammate for validation without uploading it to an internal drive.
- Hand a macOS config file to support for debugging and let the link expire after 30 minutes.
Best For
- Ops engineers who need to hand off log files or certificates to external teams temporarily.
- SREs or support engineers who need to send locally exported files for customer troubleshooting.
- Frontend engineers who need to share local build output with a remote teammate for validation.
- On-call security staff who need to share temporary config files without leaving a public port open.
