About this skill
Problems It Addresses
This skill addresses high-friction parent-child situations: declining grades, school refusal, outbursts, withdrawal, and parental emotional exhaustion. Rather than offering quick-fix discipline scripts, it reframes the conflict as a relational pattern. It helps parents notice how they respond when their inner models are triggered: judging before listening, rescuing instead of accompanying, or treating the child as an extension rather than a separate person.
How It Works
still-growing-v2 treats parenting conversations as layered responses:
- Safety first: if there are signals of suicide, self-harm, violence, or abuse, it stops ordinary analysis and prioritizes referral to crisis hotlines or child-protection resources.
- Trust-level check: it distinguishes routine confusion, acute distress, trauma disclosure, and crisis intent, so the system does not keep giving advice when that is unsafe.
- Structured response: when the context is safer, it uses a scenario index and a meta-prompt layer to structure the request: who is asking, what the core problem is, what emotional state is present, and whether the response should focus on empathy, analysis, or actionable guidance.
- Executable output: it produces a 30-second response, a two-minute suggestion list, a dialogue script, resources, and next steps.
Boundaries
It is useful for psychoeducation, emotional support, and communication frameworks, but it should not replace counseling, therapy, or psychiatric care. In cases involving child safety, abuse, self-harm, or acute crisis, professional services, hotlines, and emergency channels take priority. The skill should not be treated as a diagnostic tool for labeling children as “disordered”; a better use is helping parents recognize their own patterns, reduce shame, and practice steadier responses in specific situations.
Use Cases
- Parents can request nonjudgmental, actionable two-minute responses when a child refuses to communicate.
- Parents in emotional distress can quickly obtain safety checks and professional help pathways.
- AI apps can route parent-child conflict inputs to referral or standard support by crisis level.
- Parents can review a regretted statement and receive dialogue feedback with safer alternatives.
Best For
- Millennial and Gen-Z parents who want to recognize inherited patterns and reduce yelling and self-blame.
- Parents facing school refusal, leaves, or emotional outbursts who need safety checks and usable communication frameworks.
- Product engineers integrating LLMs into parenting scenarios who need trust-level checks and crisis routing rules.
- People reflecting on their own family-of-origin patterns who need to distinguish emotions, parenting stress, and professional help.
