About this skill
Problem
When analyzing a company's moat, the difficult part is not naming concepts such as cost advantage, brand, or network effects. It is producing a repeatable order of evidence: the market boundary is unclear, financial proof is scattered across reporting periods, and market metrics may be stale. This skill merges the advantage sources from Morningstar's The Moat and Greenwald's Competitive Advantage into one evaluation table, and uses CURRENT_TIME to choose the latest available reporting period so outdated data is not treated as current evidence.
How It Works
The workflow starts by capturing the current date, then infers the latest annual, semi-annual, Q3, or Q1 report for A-share, US, and HK markets. It then enriches the analysis with income statements, balance sheets, cash-flow statements, share price, PE, PB, dividend yield, and industry comparisons using neodata-financial-search, finance-data-retrieval, or web search. The analysis follows four modules and ten questions:
- Market definition: clarify geography and product/service scope.
- Advantage sources: test cost advantage, customer lock-in, network effects, intangible assets, and effective scale.
- Quantitative validation: examine market-share stability and excess profitability using
ROIC vs WACC. - Durability: assess whether the moat is widening, holding, or narrowing over 5–10 years.
The output is a white-background, high-contrast HTML report and an email delivery step. The report labels generation time, data cutoff date, and source notes.
Boundaries
This skill fits cases where a target company is already selected and the goal is to draft a structured value-investing analysis. It depends on local email configuration and financial/market data tools; missing email_config.py, SMTP authorization, or data sources can affect delivery and completeness. Its conclusions still require independent judgment on fundamentals, regulation, and competitive dynamics.
Use Cases
- During equity value research, use it to structure a target company's moat with Morningstar and Greenwald frameworks and produce an HTML email report.
- When checking the latest A-share reporting period and collecting income statements, ROIC, PE, and PB evidence, generate the four-module analysis.
- Before an investment review, use it to summarize market-share stability, customer lock-in, and intangible assets in the email body and HTML attachment.
- When evidence must show data cutoff dates and avoid stale reports, use CURRENT_TIME to validate the reporting and market-data range.
Best For
- Equity value-investing analysts who need to break moat judgment into market, advantage, validation, and trend steps.
- Fund manager assistants drafting investment memos who need data-dated HTML reports and email delivery.
- Researchers tracking A-share and US reporting cycles who need the latest annual or quarterly period plus PE, PB, and ROIC.
- Individual investors who need a fixed recipient inbox for competitive-advantage analysis attachments.
