About this skill

Problem to Solve

When designing an industry KPI system, the main pain point is not finding metric names, but inconsistent definitions, incomplete business coverage, and hard-to-maintain outputs. Industry KPI Library is aimed at data-analysis workflows and organizes industry knowledge by business process, helping engineers and product teams build a reviewable KPI baseline.

How It Works

  • Industry matching: checks against 19 built-in industry files covering applicable GB/T 4754 categories; otherwise it uses kpi-methodology.md for on-the-fly structuring.
  • Process confirmation: handles one business process at a time, such as production execution, inventory management, or cost and finance in manufacturing.
  • 9-column output: fixed fields include metric, definition, formula, dimensions, data source, metric type, expected direction, higher means, and lower means.
  • Summary and persistence: consolidates results by process; out-of-library industries can be appended to references/industries/.

Boundaries and Notes

  • Knowledge output only; it does not access external systems, databases, or the internet.
  • Uncertain definitions are marked needs confirmation; it does not invent processes that do not exist in the user's industry.
  • Non-trigger cases: writing SQL only, asking about one metric algorithm, or analyzing existing report data only.

Use Cases

  • Start a manufacturing project and organize KPIs by production, inventory, and finance processes.
  • Own cross-border e-commerce and define atomic and calculated metrics for inventory, sales, and fulfillment.
  • Launch a new banking product and build a baseline for operations, risk, and customer metrics.
  • Handle an industry outside the built-in library and create a process-based KPI table for future reuse.

Best For

  • Data analysts building a KPI baseline for manufacturing customers
  • Product managers defining metric definitions for cross-border e-commerce by process
  • Business analysts reviewing operations and risk metrics for new banking products
  • Solutions architects turning out-of-library industry KPIs into a reusable knowledge base
